I have never seen a 727 big block trans like this. Look at the tailstock. The access cover to the tailshaft is on the side instead of on the bottom. I don't know what it came off/out of. Any one know the story behind these? Is this thing worth rebuilding?

I had a tailshaft housing like this once. I took a worn out 727 in for rebuilding and they gave me this type back....I guess they treated transmissions like The parts houses treat alternators and starters. Rebuild a core, take in a core.
I figured that the wierd housing was for a truck or van. The idea of it being from a van is unlikely with yours, since vans had a hole drilled at the top of the bellhousing to set the ignition timing. I didn't see a hole in your trans. My trans in the Charger HAS the hole in it. No prob in a NON van app. Probably helps ventilate the converter a little.

just a truck tranz

the cover with the 2 screws is to get at the snap ring to remove the tail housing

may have HD parts inside like a 4 gear plantgear set up..ect

well worth rebuilding,is it a sb or bb tranz?

you can tell by the look and bolt spaceing on the bell housing

The side plate housing has reportedly caused some clearance problems in certain car bodies....not an issue in trucks.
