A friend of mine gave me a converter out of his 75 Coronet. It was a 318/727 car with factory 2.45 gears. Would the converter be a factory high stall by any chance, especially with the crap gears his car came with? There are no markings or anything on it

That's unfortunate. I was hoping to use it in my Fury.

If the converter is 11" (wide ring gear) it is the high-stall commonly referred to as the 764. These were widely used prior to '78; the /6 and 318 used the exact same converter.

I figure its easy enough to slide the trans back and try it. I'm looking for something around an 1800 or so. It has a converter in it now that goes about 2100 while brake torquing it, but with my 27" tires and 3.55 gears, it slips way too much. At 40 mph, its turning roughly 2100-2200rpm. Im guessing there might be something wrong with the current converter. It really doesn't leave any harder than the 1500 that was in it originally. I figure the 318 verter might be a bit more livable in the meantime until I do my A500 swap.
