The class is intended to be a duplicate of the Super Stock "wars" of the mid to late sixties. At that time, they were all full sized cars (B bodies, Fairlanes, etc), with big blocks and two four barrel carbs. The only exception were the specific build factory race cars designed for Super Stock racing, i.e. CJ's, Hemi A bodies, and SS AMX.
I know there is a lot of pressure at times to water down the class a bit by allowing small blocks, dominators and the like. With all due respect to everyone, I hope they don't cave to that pressure.
The class is unique, with unique type cars. To allow other combinations would, in my opinion, detract from what the class is meant to be, and turn it into just another bracket class.

It's supposed to be cross rams, but nowdays, the offset is so little that the intakes look like short tunnel rams. A pony car class with small blocks and cross rams could be a neat addition though.

thanks for the replies though I have seen small block cars racing in this class before thanks
If you saw a small block car in NSS it must have been a local event. None of the bigger events or series allow that, unless you consider an AMC 390 a small block.
Here is a good set of rules, which closely mirrors NMCA, Monster Mopar, and many other series: Nostalgia Super Stock National Association Rules
Here's a list of commonly accepted combos: • AMC AMX: 1968 – 1969; 390 • Chevrolet Full Bodied: 1959-64;348 & 409s, Z11 427 • Chevrolet Full Bodied: 1965-67;396-454 • Chevrolet Chevelle: 1964 – 1967; 396-454 • Pontiac Full Bodied: 1959-67;389-455 • Tempest/GTO: 1961-67;389-455 • Ford Full Bodied: 1959-67;390-427 • Ford Thunderbolt: 1964;427 • Fairlane/Comet/Cyclone/Falcon: 1963-67;427 • Dodge/Plymouth Full Bodied: 1960-67;383-440 wedge • Dodge/Plymouth Full Bodied: 1964-67;Hemi • Buick Full Bodied: 1960-67;401-455 • Skylark GS: 1964-67;400-401-455 • Oldsmobile Full Bodied: 1960-67;394-400-455 • Cutlass/442: 1964-67;400-455 • Dart/Barracuda: 1967-69;383-440 • Dart/Barracuda: 1968;426 Hemi
The overriding argument is that if a small block Barracuda is let in, then all the Mustangs and Camaros will come running. That is not in the original spirit of NSS, imo.
Good Luck, and if you have any other questions, ask away!

I think a 283/350 Chevy and a 289/302 Ford and a 273/340 class up to 1969 would be great. Especially if they mad it a stick only class, big rpm's gear jammin would be killer !

I have never seen a small block in any NSS race that I have attended. Although we run the larger events. I have heard about some smaller circuits on the east coast that will let about anything run along with not running on indexes. Most guys along with me do not feel like those races are NSS races, but a glorified bracket race.

Hey Slingshot383: we have a Nostalgia group in the Northeast called NENDRA that allows small blocks and other bracket racing equipment. We don't profess to be a "pure" Nostalgia Super Stock organization but outward appearance of the car carries the nostalgia/musclecar theme. It's all about having fun and crowd appeal. Take a look at the site: http://www.nendra.com/Home.html Perhaps you can get something like it going in your area...
