Josh, I just wondered what the cost would be in case the government stops subsidizing the cost at the pump.
Just to be clear, the govt isn't subsidizing ethanol. What they do currently offer is a tax credit to the fuel blender (not the ethanol producer). This tax credit offsets the govt fuel excise tax.
As I recall it is about $0.41-$0.45 per gallon of ethanol blended into motor fuel. So the pump price isn't going to change much if the blender tax credit goes away. The last time I checked, the wholesale price of fuel ethanol was about $0.40/gallon cheaper than the wholesale price of unleaded regular gasoline.
When blended to make 10% ethanol pump gas, the blender credit typically goes to the oil company that does the blending. Some E85 is made by oil companies, some by independants. The vast majority of fuel ethanol in the US goes into E10 pump gasoline, not E85.
Where you are in Indiana, E85 is about $0.59 less than 87 octane gasoline. $2.89 vs $3.48 Not to mention the spread to 93 octane... http://e85prices.com/

SAME HERE ... because it is NOT fresh. There was a station in Dearborn that was selling it some years back ... it was like 8 months old sometimes.

E-10 deteriorates by 3 months old, and by 6 months it is causing problems. I'd imagine E-85 has an even shorter shelf life??
Only if its left to the air... in a sealed steel drum it last a LONG time.... I buy it from Meijer because they go through a lot of it... I check the content before I fill my drums

John quickfuel sells a single tube kit you can use. Or find a scientific supply, or I think Mark Sullens sells the 100cc tubes give him a call.573-694-4088 marksullense85carb.com. By the way Darren Tedder found that the component that evaporates from E 85 is gasoline, so the ethanol content gets higher. Don
