VITC_GTX OP master V Joined: Mar 2003 Posts: 4,929 Tri-Cities, Washington	Got an engine from a guy (with a car I bought) that was already assembled as a short block. I took everything apart and things seem fine, including clearances. One question on the rings though; both the 1st and 2nd compression rings are the same. I didn't know that they did that. They both have a bezel on the inside top of the ring. They both have one dot (dimple) on the top as well. I thought the second ring usually had a bezel on the bottom? Thoughts?

Thoughts? the ones I've dealt w yes but iirc on the white sheet they could be the same & not likely the PO used 2 sets & nor that the assembly line worker at the ring mfr plant grabbed the wrong set. I'd go as is. Did you tear down this rebuilt short block to clean everything? live every 24 hour block of time like it's your last day on earth

Better profile and materials availabe now than back then. Are they stil tight in the holes? 76' Volare, 5.9 magnum w/Iron heads. New best 10.68 at 123 mph 1/4 mile.
