normally extra accesories sources what it sucks power from batt
however, I have seen those extra thick wires on station wagons and extra equipments options ( Police, cabs ) not really on a pretty much standart vehicle.
I can't recall if power windows harness gets that wire.
you should eb able to find around the other end of that wire.
It should be hooked on black side of ammeter, not on red side.
Where is BTW, the back wire to the ammeter ? ( the thick one similar to the red ) I can't see it attached to your cluster. Red one attachs to the RED post ( labeled ) and black to the unlabeled ( including the clock one and any other extra wire what sucks power )

Just some advice. Since you are wiring it up, Id bypass the amp meter gauge. Its almost a necessity and the factory probably shouldnt have wired it as such. Mad Electrical has a write up on the subject.
I did it to my car (72RR) and I am very glad I did.

Does your car have power windows? Appears to be the 10 gauge power feed for the 30 amp circuit breaker mounted to the top of the fuse box. The ring connector would connect to the alternator side (black wire) of the amp gauge.
Yes it has Power Windows. So the red with white stripe wire hooks up to the black side of the Alt gauge, and the Solid red wire hooks up by itself?
Why should I bypass the Alt gauge all together? Should I buy an aftermarket one? What problem did you occur with it wired to the dash?
Thank you all for your help.
