I have a haulmark elite 2 with the fiberglass/plastics cap on the top of the front I huess to help with the aero of it. Anyways I opened the trailer up for the first time in a few months and I had water streaks down the front and the floor had a little water standing looks to be coming from around that cap. What is the best thing to re-seal the roof of a trailer? It is a 2000 model and has never been re-done that I can tell. thanks
One day I will have something cool here.

I brought mine from Wal-Mart & put it on the top with a roller. A 5 gal. bucket was only about $40.00 it is a plastic fiber coat for roofs(I think they used it on the old tin roofs)but it works.I can't remember the name either  but you get it in the paint section.Get you a roller open the 5 gal. bucket dip the roller in the bucket & roll it on"Simple" It took about 30 mins. to do the top of my 40' GN trailer.

I wouldn't do the whole thing, just the seams. Why add all the weight and risk having it lift off down the road someday or while your going down the road. Every pound counts on a trailer just like race cars. My roofs have been one peice aluiminum with seams on the edges. I get up on my roofs and wash em at least once a year, that helps keep the black streaks from running down the side of my trailer. Having all that coating up there would be hard to keep clean and who knows what's gonna run down the sides then.

I'd advise shopping at a RV store, they will have the right stuff. Not the stuff you put on top of mobile homes, that's not what I'm talking about.
You don't want any tar on the roof of your race car trailer, I'm telling you.

When I took my RV back to the manufacturer in Middlebury Ind, near Elkhart, they asked if I ever resealed to the roof. I said no and it wasn't leaking. They said it was standard practice to reseal the seams from time to time. When I got it back there was a fresh coat of something thick and gray on all the roof seams.
That's all I got, the seams do move a little when the trailer is going down the road, so I'm guessing something flexiable.
I think the name of that grey stuff is Siliprene

I may be wrong but I think the name may be "Kool Seal". It dries but looks like its flexible,don't think it will ever come lose and blow off it might in pieces like paint. I would not think it would be all that heavy,but it might. It also helps keep the trailer cooler inside. It does do a good job of stopping small leaks,and will not run off like tar.
