Yes, I know this has been done to death, and I do know how to ID a lockup IF the tranny is out of the vehicle, but is there any way to tell with the trans still in the vehicle? It's not driveable yet, so I can't take it out to "feel" it.

On a 904 on the tail housing about halfway back on the side on iirc the dr side there is a 2 digit # ie "77" which if it is past the year of the changeover to LU's then that'd confirm it. Not sure if 727's have this cast # (I'm a 904 guy) but it'd b an easy check/fast way to confirm/deny

Engine and trans are out of an early 80's truck or van, from which I understand, may or may not have the lock up trans. I know my '78 Fury 318 2bbl/904 was a lock up, but my '84 W-150 was not as it was a "heavier duty" vehicle, I just didn't know if there was any external identifying marks.
BTW, the link to that trans # id sight doesn't work

Link worked for me, it opens up to a PDF, so you might have to click in a GUI for open vs save vs cancel, and then it takes a few secs to load.

ok, got it to work, thanks to all! Now I just have to crawl under the truck in the snow and get my #'s!
