On anther post someone mentioned using a Lenco ST1200 on the street. I went to the Lenco website and sure enough they do make a manual transmission for the street.

Looks pretty wild and I imagine costly. Is anybody using this type of transmission on a street/strip car?

At this time I am not sure if the LencoDrive automatic is strictly for racing or also available in a street/strip version.

Check out the latest Hot Rod, the one with the 9 second Hemi Dart on the cover, street driven A/C and a Lenco 1200 with gear vendors OD. I want more info than thay published but looks like a real trick deal. Probably buckets full of $$$$$

You are right. The Hemi Dart in the Sept. '08 Hot Rod has a Lenco. The owner Gary says, "The Lenco freewheels in First through Forth gear when you get off the gas, which makes it very friendly to operate on the street. That means since there is no engine braking, you don't have to step on the clutch all the time when you are coasting to a stop." The owner says "Excess is good." In this case I think the Lenco is just about perfect.

Now I have something new to dream about. Imagine grabbing a gear with this type of setup...

That absolutely pegs the cool meter. I'd love to see the look on the valet's face when you pull up to Chez Whitey strapping a lenco.

I know one guy who had a 3-speed lenco drive automatic in a cuda, and it was awesome!!!

Friends of mine run the st1200 4-speed manual in a rustang, and its also wild. Makes a whine when driving though.

Lenco's were developed because horsepower levels outgrew most standards and automatics. The downside (besides the size, numerous shifters and downshifting woes) are that they rob a lot of horsepower. You'll want some serious ponies before you consider one of these.

No doubt it would have some visual impact but I think driving with the thing would become a PITA real quick !!
