I've got a 727 and 2.94 gears. The car doesn't pull like a 440 should. I'm planning a gear swap for this year. I was playing with a speed/rpm calculator, and according to calculations my transmission is roughly 80-85 percent efficient right now. At 70 mph (verified with a GPS), im turning 3000 rpm. It's a stock, regular low stall factory converter. I understand that the torque converters can wear out so to speak over time, but this transmission also behaves oddly and runs through the gears way too quickly. (There is no time between 2nd and 3rd at part throttle) The line pressure adjustment is correct and the throttle pressure linkage is adjusted correctly.
My question is, how much slippage should there be with a stock converter? I would think only about 5-10 percent.

I'm trying to figure out what my slippage should be after a rebuild.
NORMAL driving .... other than WOT ... with no-load ... should be virtually NO slippage.
You have a trans that is coming-apart.

so you think you have about 20% slippage ?
How is your ATF quality ?
Its turning color pretty quickly and the transmission is generating clutch material and metal like mad.
The throttle pressure linkage is all the way back at full throttle. I checked the lever on the transmission and it pulls it all the way at full throttle. I even had a friend look at it who rebuilds transmissions and used to be a certified Chrysler transmission technician and he reassured me that its set correctly.
sounds like the trans is slipping if it is generating clutch and metal , that is not normal. as far as your linkage being all the way back at full throttle that is not properly adjusted. get out your service manual and adjust it as it says in there .
