I am assuming 62-64 all models used something similar with the 4 fiber board slides inside that the buttons would use to switch between heat, defrost, cool and off. Right?

Yes 62-64 used those buttons for the heater controls. Not sure if 65-66 were the same. The units were white when new turning a yellow collor as they aged. The vacume connections on the back become brittle, usually the main connection to the manafold gets broken first.
