This is what i am trying to tell you ! The drums are not hubs! The hubs are the part that hold the drums on . To remove the hubs you have to take the wheel bearings apart . This is where I think you have a problem .
If the hubs are out of round because somebody separated them by hammering out the studs the drums will never run strait on the hubs .
you can check the hubs by using a dial indicator with a magnet base .

Sounds like you may have worn out upper control arm bushings, braking action repositions the load on the "A" arm when brakes are applied and usually causes a heavy clunking sound, pump the brake pedal continues the sound in sucession to the pedal pumps.

I have a car I just bought and notice this same thing the minute it came off the car carrier and I hit the brakes, previous owner forgot to tell me the upper control arm bushings were shot!

Check all your ball joints and tie rod ends and any linkage while you're at it for signs of wear.

Good luck

when i redid the brakes, i just took off the wheels , i loosen up on the brakes from the back and the hubs just came right off, i went to the parts store and bought new ones, i replaced the brakes and put the hubs back on and tighten up the brakes and that is it, i have not had the car on the road since i did this till about a mth ago, i have not driven the car over 10 to 15miles at one time yet, i have maybe 30miles on the new brakes and hubs

the hubs came off without taking the bearings out,

when was the last time you had the car on a front end rack to have the alignment done ? you obviously had to crank up the torsion bars for the engine change , that changes the alignment .

Are the shoes oriented correctly? Just a thought.

okay i think i found it, the front brake drums do not fit as they should, when i take off the wheel, the drums will almost just fall off, and when i try to tighten them up, they are too tight, i did took some measurements, i should have 10 by 2.50 drums, when i measure the front hubs, they are a little under 11inches by almost 3inches, i think the parts house sold me the wrong drums, too bad, i bought them 4years ago, did not know they were wrong till now, when i got the car on the road, i really do not want to invest in new hubs, i plan on going to disc when i get the money, so i am hoping i can find 2 good used front drums to run till i get the money for the disc. conversation.

i will post my findings once i get new front drums

the hubs checked out find, there is no slack and they turn okay to the eye and feel, however the drums seem to be the problem,
the inside of the drum where the factory machined the area where the brake shoes ride is out of round, to the eye it looks all wrong, and instead of 2 1/2 inches, there is about 3inches instead 2 1/2 inches, so i think this is causing the problem

after i try the brake drums , the next stop will be the front in shop, i had the front end rebuilt with all new parts about 5000 miles ago, however that was about 6 to 7 years, i just have not driven the car much since the rebuild, when i took it to the alignment shop, the front end guy sd he did set up the front end for a 440 engine, however , i did not change out the torson bars, maybe there is something wrong with the alignment, i will have to get this checked out too

UPDATE*****i have found and corrected both problems*** the clanking sound was the steering column and the coupler, the lower bearing was bad ** the vibration when i hit the brakes was mismatched brake shoes,
i am almost embarrased to post this, i had the brakes mismatched, i switched them around to correct, i did not have the smaller brake surface brake on the front and did not have the bigger brake surface brake towards the rear of car, when i switched them around, took for test drive everything fixed*** thanks for all the input Guys, MoParts is the greatest*** i appreciate everybodys patience with me, sometimes it takes alot of explaining before i get it
