i have a 1968 dodge coronet, was a 318, with p/s, is now 440 without ps, i took off the ps and used the one piece adapter, i also changed out the column shift to a floor shift column, the front end was rebuilt a couple of years ago , i found out the guy did not replace the strut bar bushings, i was told this may be the problem, when i am going down the road, i can feel a bumping type of vibration in the steering wheel, and when i brake, it is kinda of scaring, i went on the highway today, when i come up to red light and hit the brakes, the steering wheel felt like a fair ride, it was vibrating and i could hear a clanking type sound and bad vibration and it felt as thought the whole front-end was falling out of the car, the brakes have also been redone, i did use a used steering box when i changed from the p/s to the manual, can some give me some direction, i know it will have to go to the front end shop, i was just trying to narrow the problem down so i know what i will be dealing with,  thanks

That's what my Dart did befort the front end rebuild. I think it was a bad ball joint.

i am running headers and the steering shaft is very close, very close i post the pic, if it is rubbing , why is it so bad when i brake? i when out and it does look like the steering shaft is hitting the headers, i guess i can bend the headers to the get the clearence?

HI Looking at your pictures i can tell you that the steering column shaft is not a factory piece . looks like someone made a homemade steering shaft coupler . that is probable part of the reason it is noisy. Also the headers would not even hit if it were factory setup on the column. Shoot another picture of the whole steering shaft down to the box so we can see for sure what is going on .

 What is that mess ? Plus the header is way to close to the column and it's going to melt that plastic bushing.

you can clearly see on the header that it is hitting the steering shaft. U need a coupler as the steering box and column is not always in alignment.

Dude,do yourself a big favor,remove that hacked steering column from the car,and do not drive the car again,until you put the correct steering column,and coupler in the car. You could hurt or even kill yourself,or someone else. The $100 it would cost to put the correct parts in the car,will be a small investment,compared to the damage you could cause driving the car like that. If you have B body headders on the car,they should be designed to clear the factory steering column. If not,then I recommend you change them to headders designed for your application,from a reputable headder manufacturer. Never modify a steering column to clear the headders on a b body,when proper fitting headders are readily available.

i guess i am to blame for this stupid set up, i bought a console and steering column from a guy, i thought was b body, turns out to be a 66'c body, he told me to just take out the rag joint and it wld work, i really did not think this good idea, so this is my mess up, i have the old steering column, i guess i can grind off the column shifter and do some body work on the column housing and put the original back in, i have included some pics of my red-neck hack job,

Not to be a critic , I just want to help . If it was my car and believe me I have had my share of Mopars.
First, fix your steering With correct column and rag joint.
If you have an accident and your car is impounded for an inspection ,I'm willing to bet your insurance is out the window .
Second, get rid of those rubbish headers, they are only a nuisance and unless you are an all out racer that needs that little bit of power they give you take them off and put on a set of HP manifolds. Then you will have a bit of satisfaction. What do anyone want headers on the street for ????? You can't go racing and like i said unless its a race car dump them .
