At 141,000 miles, I am finally having my first repair to my '00 300M. I love this car! I have a few questions:

1. A local tranny shop that I deal with will replace the seal and do the entire job for around $800. It seems like a fair price to me given the labor? Is it fair?

2. Should they do anything else to the tranny while it is out of the car, like replace the converter?

3. Anything else I should know or watch out for?

Thanks in advance!

It's not the front seal causing the leak. It's the bushing behind the seal. They won't tell you until they get it out. The brass bushing in the pump wears, then covers the return hole occasionaly and then it will leak. The convertor can also be worn because of the brass bushing also. At 141k I'd rebuild the entire trans. And make sure to get a new convertor.

Wow, that's a kick in the head. How much do you figure to rebuild the entire transmission if that truly is the case.

Thanks again, I'd rather have an idea about upcoming pain than not!

With that kind of mileage and it had to be pulled for a leak or similar condition, I would definitly go thru it

without putting pencil to paper I would figure $1500 to $2000, with 2K on the high side/ worst case

price will vary in different regigns he in Central Fl our shop would be around 2400 for a full overhaul with converter depending on actual damage.
