OK, I had to think about it for a while. Sounds like we have two different theories here, simply stated 5%-10% over max hp rpm and screaming it.

I know cars that turn left keep the rpms way past max to keep wheel speed high. If they ran less rpm the car wouldn’t accelerate as fast coming out of the turns.

So why two different theories used in drag racing

I can tell you that with my N/SS 63 Dodge running past peak did nothing except turn the engine higher. I ran a 4.56 then a 4.88 then a 4.10. It ran within .05 with all three. Your combo may be different. My bet is the more torque you have under the curve, the less the effect of over gearing has. I will test this theory this Summer.

From my testing I have seen a wider LSA as in 112
VS a 108 the wider LSA has a wider power band and
is more tolerant to rpm ... I dont see my car do
much in ET on RPM changes(unless its ALOT of RPM)
