will 72' 340 challenger exhaust manifolds have enough clearance for a 71' 318 dart? thanks

How come? I have early 340 HP manifolds in my 71 Duster. The 72 Hp manifolds have a center dump passenger side. Where would you have a problem?

the pass side manifold looks identical, but I was just curious to if the drivers side would fit

EDIT I made a mistake

1970

1973 (a 72 has the larger outlet identical to the 70)

Why did the 70 340 E and A's have the same manifolds but the 71 and up E bodies were different on the drivers side than the A bodies?

71-74 left e-body 340-360 exhaust manifolds will not fit an a-body. It is a short necked ball joint
connection style manifold that will not clear the a-body steering column. The right side will fit as
the 623 casting was used for A,B,and E body 340-360 applications. If 340-360 manifolds are being used on a 318 , 318 manifold gaskets must be used
or you will have an exhaust leak as the ports on the manifolds are larger than the 318 head ports.

Tom Swope is the man- the expert! He has Accurate
LTD and doesn't want to toot his own horn. I bought
some big block 440-A body conversion manifolds
from him maybe 4 yrs. ago and they were perfect
and worth every penny. He probably knows more about mopar exhaust systems than anyone else
on this site!
