You mean you think it is a head gasket, not intake gasket? Overheating with smoke following the incident sounds like possibility of head gasket.
Has he pulled the dipstick and looked for anything other than oil like substance? How much smoke and what color smoke? More info needed really.

Never heard of an intake problem on the 5.7 or 6.1. That's not to say they can't have one, but I don't believe it is a common issue. We have several at the PD I work for, and none has had any motor issues, and they get beat to hell. The highest mileage one now has close to 80K miles. Alot of blue smoke is obviously not normal. As mentioned, leak down test is probably going to be next step. Curious, is it losing oil or coolant?

The intakes on these are dry, nowhere to suck in any oil, could be head gasket as mentioned. If he's running a "catch can" and has'nt emptied it in a while it will suck oil from there into the intake, ,D.

Hi I never eard of a catch can this engine only have around 1000 miles and not abuse we use recomanded oil (synthrtic )and it been change twice in the last two years thanks for all reply '
A catch can is more seen in the "tuner" growd but also alot of guys running boosted engines use them. It is plumbed into your pcv systems and "catches the oil that is running through it." Either way the fact you over heated even for a small amount of time is no good. Any IMO you are going to have top go into the motor to fix it.

Study the layout of the engine and you'll notice it's definitely "possible" for oil to be sucked into the intake ports...however it is not a very common problem, the OE seals are very stout pieces, I have even reused them before w/o any problems....but never say never.
There is a pcv passage on the right intake flange and a breather + oil filler flange on the left intake flange. Oil does pass directly through the intake, because there is nowhere else on the motor for breather/oil fill/pcv.
Intake may be cracked into one of the breather/filler/pcv passages. I have never heard of it happening, but that would definitely do it.

THe 6.1s manifold is cast alum.,so I kinda doubt it would crack(not saying they can't),The 5.7s are plastic and could be more prone to this, but I've never seen or heard of one cracking. The pcv could be stuck/not working correctly allowing oil to be pulled into the intake under hard acceleration . Whatever it is,you need to do a leak down check or a comp. check,D.
