I'm not positive, but I believe it grounds through one of the top engine/ trans bolts to the firewall.
1970 Plymouth 'Cuda #'s 440-6(block in storage)currently 493" 6 pack, Shaker, 5 speed Passon, 4.10's 1968 Plymouth Barracuda Convertible 408 Magnum EFI with 4 speed automatic overdrive, 3800 stall lock-up converter and 4.30's (closest thing to an automatic 5 speed going)

No ground wire. The trans is grounded by being bolted to the motor and linkage etc.
Well, none of it is "grounded" unless it's actually hooked to something.
Basically, a front mount battery needs to be grounded to the engine, which handles the heavy starter current.
The regulator, mounted on the body, as well as accessories such as lights and heater, need to be grounded to the battery neg. So there needs to be AT LEAST one big jumper from the engine to the body, or from the battery neg. to the body.
If the battery is in the trunk, the battery will be grounded to the body. A nice big jumper needs to be from the engine to the body
