I want to paint the manifolds orange when the engine gets painted. My question is, do you paint the manifolds cast grey before they get painted with the orange paint or do you just clean them, bead blast them and install as is, then apply the engine paint.

Thanks

I would have them ceramic coated cast grey first, then mount them and paint the engine orange. That way the orange paint will burn off and the manifolds will NEVER rust.

I've done about 5 sets this way now with good results. On my car I just went with the orange paint and now they look like rusty crap.

My Mom has never done any, but Mike is correct...not sure how...but I use Fireball coatings in Erin ON. Price is $225.00 plus tax and they sandblast them.

I have a 340 in the garage that I can take pictures of later today...

Thanks Alan, I will give them a call.

By the way, do you have to remove the heat riser valve or do they coat that also.

Manythanks Norm

You might want to remove it first. The coating may prevent it from working...I have never sent in manifolds with the heat riser....

Oh dam...I fogot to take pictures today...sorry..

...and the other side...

This is the way the customer wanted it....The shield was painted with BBQ paint first, not sure how long that will last.
I paint the motor first with a couple of good coats, mount the manifolds then give the motor one last coat

If you get past the original cost, Jet-Hot or similar ceramic is by far the way to go , and they come in all different colors. Anything that says "paint" on it will look like crap after a while, even the so called manifold paints like POR...
