How did you remove the spot welds? Did you use a good grinder to grind away the spot weld just before the bottom panel and then use a chisel? Keep truckin'.....

Thanks..

I'm using the edge of a 3" cut off wheel mounted in my die grinder to knock the top off of the welds then an air chisel to pop them loose from the base metal. In some hard to get areas I am step drilling them very shallow trying not to go all the way through then popping them loose...I have found no "magic" trick to remove them easily...the factory did a really nice job of making removing them a pain in the...backside...

nope. What he is doing is the best method. Spotweld cutters are great when you want to save the top and bottom panels, but on a rusty crusty trunkfloor the grind thru method is WAY easier and more effective.

Your car will be like new.

I perfer reg old drill bit and don't drill all the way through. A air chisel is a must.

TexasPowerRam... I'm located just outside of Saginaw off of business 287, about a mile from the Saginaw airport.
Challenger 1 thanks for your input...funny you would post your ideas about blasting, I have been browsing the web for the last hour or so looking at blasters to do the very thing you suggested. Id like to blast the frame rails and support structure then Rust Bullet them before installing the new metal.

Thanks, by the way, I see from your pictures you installed the trunk floor extensions onto the floor pan before you installed the quarters...I like that idea, seems like it would make welding them soooo much easier...

Yup, just make sure they fit the quarters and wheel tubs before welding them to the floor pan. I must of had the car togeather and apart about 8 times before I welded them. There's lots to massage on those extensions.

Well it's way past Christmas...but here is some new info and pics...got lots of new sheet metal from Jeff Brown, (thanks Jeff). Harry Homeowner sand blaster is working my tail off (lol) but most of the rusted metal is cut away, still have to get the tail panel off and prep the frame rails for re-installation of the trunk pan etc...etc...etc...so much work... ... ...here's some pics...
