Sonny drove the Collins/Jones car. And Mikes car is the Terry Earwood car ('71). And yes, was a hardtop at one time. An original BIW car!

That pic of Mike with the car almost vertical is one of my favorites... Heavy damage afterward, but whoever shot that pic was in the right place at the right time!

What about the Fink Bros Convertable painted in the Shadowoods Auto scheme? Finks car was on display at Indy a couple of years ago, its still in Zanesville. I just remembered Barry Hutter in a convert. Or am I dreaming?

Here is an add I found for the John Baughman/Kent Ritter/Bob Kaiser car, like the Sun Kissed Cuda earlier in this thread it has some great pics of the engine, interrior, trunk & underside of the car which are of great value to someone like myself who is trying to replicate such a car.

"1970 SS/DA Hemi Cuda , this car started out as an original 440 six pack car with a 4 speed and red interior, and then was converted to a NHRA super stock car(with a hemi) very early in its life. It is currently ready for Chrysler Classic or Nostalgia events or run in NHRA/IHRA. With a little detuning it could also be put back on the street.

The car gained national fame when Kent Ritter and John Baughman raced it with a six pack motor. The car is also a previous National Event(Grandnationals) and multi time SS/FA class winner(including Indy). Also many time SS/FA & SS/GA record holder(NHRA and IHRA). It even held both records simultaneously when John Baughman owned it. Car also won several points meets in NHRA Division 1 back in the day. The car has also been displayed in several Direct Connection parts catalogs too. I have National Dragsters&Magazines documenting all these accomplishments. It was originally built by Tim Richards(Bud King&Amato top fuelers crew chief) for Joe Umbra out of Wilkes Barre,PA. Then Bob Kaiser raced it before Kent Ritter.

Currently the Cuda has a 60 over Hemi in it, with Barton Heads, Barton/Mike Bogina Modified intake, and Turner/BSJ modified carter carbs. The Cuda also has a Frank Lupo tranny and convertor. Best run at legal SS/DA weight is 10.06 at 133 at the last NHRA Division 5 race of the year. I also raced the car at the Hemi Reunion in Quaker City.

The exterior of the car is painted in a old school style featuring pearl white paint with rainbow metalflake mixed in(looks great in the sunlight), orange metallic surrounding the white and purple highlights. The "Plymouth" logo on the hood and quarter panels are also old school silver leaf. There is a small dent in the passg rear qrter panel, but otherwise cars paint and body is excellent. The interior is black with some of the original red showing through on the dash. The seats will need to be recovered to be show ready.

Chrome Moly Certified Cage(current certification) with 4 link and Dana. Best 60 foot was 1.278 when John Baughman had it. Lamb Front Disc Brakes/Wilwood Rear, with Koni rear shocks. Other super stock tricks on car too."

Guys, I don't think that you can have a conversation about SS/DA Cudas without bringing up Gary Ostrich's beautiful 70 Hemi Cuda. Last I heard it is still in this paint-minus the lettering - Kudos to the current owner for not putting it back to stock (not sure if it is an original Hemi car)

The Kaiser Bros Cuda was Clayton Wrights car before they owned it - looks like this could also have been the Ritter car - anyone know?

Here is the Centolanza Bros SS/D car. I was talking to Hemi John (NJ) and he told me that he and a partner bought this car from the Centolanza's and when they sold it Terry Earwood came to pick it up. Terry told me that when the current owner called to verify that the car was a 71 Hemi car Terry said yes, once the guy bought it he found out that it was really a 70 converted to a 71 - it had always been a 71 when Terry drove it - so he didn't know. Hemi John knew that the Centolanza's car had been converted to a 71 - so I am guessing that these are the same cars.

Alex Polewik.

And that car was supposed to be the Tim Richards car, but I don't think that was ever confirmed if it was in fact the same car.

Alex, had Dell and I check with Tim Richards at Indy either last year or the year before about his car. Tim told us that he had (2)-70 Cudas. So we are not sure which one this is supposed to be. I don't think that Tim was much help as to where the cars went - he liked seeing the pics though - he always seems grumpy but he was a pretty nice guy when he spoke with us. What most people don't know is that he built ALOT of engines and trans for S/S cars in the earlier years -Carpinet Bros, Centolanza's, ect...

Frito said I should jump in here a bit. My SS/DA Hemi Cuda vert raced as both a 70 and 71 car. No VIN or MSO, built from a body in white car, converted to a vert from a hardtop. Steve Bagwell owned in for awhile, driven sometimes by Terry Earwood. Owned later by Barry Hutter, possibly driven by Sonny Ray. Phil Collins bought the car in about 1975 from Barry Hutter, had it completely redone at Barnett Racecars and raced it under the Collins and Jones banner with Sonny Ray driving- missed the world championship by one round in or around 1978. The car mostly sat from around 1980 to 1990. I bought the car from Phil in August 1990. At the time the white paint scheme had been redone and the car was solid red, including bumpers and scoop, and white top. I repainted the car to blue with a black top around 2001, ripped the top off around 2002 at Brainerd, did another "straight up" wheelstand at Brainerd in 2005, pretty much like the Spring 1991 red/white wheelstand at Dallas. pics of the 2005 stuff on www.autoimagery.com. We didn't race much in 2010, hope to be out quite a bit more in 2011.
