I wonder if this thing will handle serious power. Sure sounds interesting... Go to this video http://pirate4x4.com/tv/live14b.phpand move up to the 12 minute 15 second mark for the torque converter info. I didn't see anything on Percy's website yet.

That was pretty wild. Wonder what kind of price tag they will hang on it? Bet it will be pretty steep.

That's the big question, and of course, how reliable will it be? Can't wait to see how they perform on the track.

the difference with the heat is it is a whole different design he said it has a set of gears running fluid through them instead of a fins like a regular converter
70 duster full chassis super pro 416 CNC Indybrock heads 727 w/brake
best so far 1.212 60 6.219 in 1/8 at 110.88 9.768 at 137.81 1/4

Its hard to imagine that thing spinning 7000rpm in your bellhousing. It looks like its got a 727 snout on it?

I don't think the unit spins. I think the only thing that spins are the gears that are inside the unit.

Hmmm..... .......It's gear driven, so, what's keeping it from moving at idle?.......It has to be slipping somewhere???? and when you get it to go to 5K at the hit, it's going to be slipping even more........
In the video you can see that the case has two through holes for locating bolts. At least I think that' what they're for... I believe the unit is held solidly mounted and only the gears inside turn.
In the video he says that at a certain RPM, the unit has a check valve which locks the unit up, eliminating slippage. He's talking only 1-2% parasitic loss

Apparently?? Im not sure, I watched it several times and he never once mentioned Torque multiplication. Thats what I was searching for. Because if that vert doesnt provide it. It wont come close to competing with the current verts. The closest he came to addressing it was when he stated it acts like a Hydraulic pump. I cant figure out if it can multiply the torque or not on the launch. To me This would be a important factor, along with the Torque ratings and reliabity of the unit. If it cant multiply the torque, its a Street vert. If it could multiply the torque, you would think that they would include that multiplication factor as a selling point. On a new product, I know I would. Instead they advertize Adjustible Stall speed and 2% lock up efficiency. mike

Since it has different sized gears, I don't see how it couldn't multiply torque???

Squeeze, He didnt say it has different size gears. But , before i add any more input. Let me state that from his promotional description, theres not really enough info to come to any "real conclusions" So I will further Speculate. Heres my take, He states it has two big gears. the crank gear being like a Idler gear pumping fluid to the lower tranny pump gear. With low rpm or centrifical force the fluid slips around lower pump gear at lower pressure until the RPM/centrifical force rises enough to close a barrel valve and that other weighted spring assisted arm valve. Thereby allowing full hydraulic pressure into the pump system allowing almost full lock up of the hydraulic pump type Vert vs slipping for lack of fluid pressure. Same Two gears though. The drive difference being hydraulic slip at below stall RPM vs 2% hydraulic near lock up with all pressure release valves closed. If this is the case, it is still concievable that there could be a hydraulic pressure spike as the centrifical valves close to cause some initial torque multiplication on the launch. By your implication of two different size gears that later nearly lock up by 2% as a 1 to 1 gear, I see your point. But that in itself would/could be a stateable gear multiplication that I would indicate in its selling point. But like I stated earlier, with the limited info given in the promo, its just my speculation. mike

I bet it is a simple hydraulic pump feeding a hydraulic motor, at idle the barrel valve lets all the fluid flow through a bypass circuit, as RPM goes up the weight on the barrel valve forces it to turn against a spring and block the bypass forcing the hydraulic motor to turn.
I think the gears he was refering to are just the pump gears and by changing the pump VS motor gear sizes you can change the TQ output.
If that is how it operates(I bet that is exactly it)then I would call it a hydraulic clutch or gear box but not a tq converter. The whole thing does have to rotate otherwise he would not have made the statement about it looking ugly but being balanced.
