Bob more pics please and keep us updated. Can you get better pics?

Sorry.AJ took those with his phone.I will ask jim or someone to take some good ones this weekend and post them.We will update any progress, right now we are evaluating a game plan as to what's best for Jim and the car.We will cataloge and inventory all the parts removed.Jim had started to diassemble some of the car before he brought it to the shop.I was in goose bumps as I removed the tin stub tabs that held the rear brake drums on.

Nothing against BGR at all, awesome guys, best in the business for what they do, but MAN! I am shaking my head BIG TIME! All of the small original details that get destroyed forever when you take a low mile survivor engine out of a car like that, rebuilt it and repaint it, etc. Sorry but to me it's a damn shame he took that car to a race car shop. What a waste of history!

I cant believe you said all that Scott...

I found the comments here very interesting ...

I appologize if I've stepped on any toes, as I said in my opening comment, I have full respect for BGR as a race car shop, please pardon my ignorance on the subject but I had no idea they did any "restoration" type work.

Bob thank you for your supportive words!

As far as my other comments AT NO POINT did I exclaim that the car should not be driven or stashed away in a hyperbaric chamber for all eternity! I hope the owner drives and enjoys it to the max!

All I was trying to convey is that there are so few of these cars that are still untouched originals, especially the engine bays. It is a shame to lose another pristine example for whatever reason, at least before the finer details are recorded in extreme detail so they can at least be used as future restoration reference material. I am more sensitive to this subject than most because I am heavily involved and interested in restoration work and judging them. I can't tell you how many "survivor" cars I've seen with freshly painted engines and detailed undercarriages, about all that "survived" or was left original was the paint on many of them. I see it as an opportunity to gain knowledge lost and too me that's a shame.

As far as the comments about me losing business? Of course I value the business you guys give me, my customers are my most important asset. But does being a business owner remove my right to voice a personal opinion? I really hope not. In the end whether you agree with my opinions or not I stand by my posts here on Moparts, I'm not perfect and I'll occasional make a mistake, and when I do I'll be the first to take the responsibility.

Thanks Scott, that you like me can and do make mistakes, but are respectful enough to apologize speaks volumes of your character.I was not trying to bash you only defend our reputation. You may not realize what all we do at BGR.We have restored cars and assisted in many high doller projects for many years. No toes stepped on here, just an irritated bear that got poked.

It would be awesome if you could keep us posted on the re-do with pics. Heck, I would be willing to pay to come in once in a while to just observe - if I lived a little closer. Should be a real fun treat for all involved.

Bob...
how long do you forsee this "re-do" to take?

I'd love to stop by and see it in person if that's ok with you and the owner. however, I'm stuck here in asscrackistan till sometime after the new year.

knowing how you guys work, that car'll probably be back on the road in a month!

i for one, am very curious to hear about the quality (or possible lack thereof) of the original assembly/machine work, particularly the engine. these things fascinate me. they put a human face on the machine. this is a great project- please, pictures!

for what is the good life if not doing things thoughtfully?

We are going to mic and weigh everything as well as check all the deminsions. This is a Maltese cross stamped block. We will photo every piece.there are some unique features that are singulary specific to this car.Jim will have a record of what we found and anything we do.This will not be a short term project.

There's a guy in Tacoma, WA. sitting on a '66 Hemi Satellite with less than 5k orig. miles. He told me he beleives most of those miles have been on & off the trailer, and parking it at shows.

He's a Ford guy and has an entire collection of Ford muscle stuff. He has one Chevy and one mopar just to round out the collection. The Chevy is a 55 Shoebox hotrod. The mopar, this priceless orig. '66 Hemi Satellite. Told me he found it in Georgia about 10 years ago.

Gary has some incredible cars! The 66 is light green I believe. Scott, if you're on the west side of the mountains some time I can arrange a viewing.

Scott, your statement couldn't be more invalid,we have restored more valuable cars that retain values that exceed over $500,000.Not to mention my unrestored Hemi Dart.We have talked to Jim at length and are also consulting with my brother Tony George about this car.I understand and respect your opinion, but it's just that, your opinion.I also have an opinion, that if a man hangs on to his dream for 44 years and when he reaches a age or stage in his life that he wishes to live that dream before it's too late, then he is intitled to do so.That you disagree is fine, but respecting Jim's wishes is the only opinion that matters.I have already respectfully talked him out of his original plan and we are evaluating a new stragity with Tony's imput. That you think bringing it to BGR was a mistake is correct,a mistake on your part.Obiviously you don't know much about BGR.That we shared this event with everyone on Mopars and may share the future project, one would think we would be applauded not critized Respectfully Bob

Great story here Bob, and I couldn't agree more. The man has owned the car since new, for 44 years. Its great to advise him what something thinks should be done to it to preserve its value, but ultimately the owner can do whatever he wants with it.

Put this on your list next time you come west, Scott! Gary MacKay is a great guy, and has an incredible collection tucked away in his warehouse. He spent about 2 hours with me one day on a private tour of each car.... Nice stuff!

What a cool story and its in great hands at BGR What lead to him not driving it anymore after only 11,000 miles? You have to admire someone who keeps their original car still to this day either running or not even when huge offers are made to purchase it Thats why im in a quandry right now having purchased an original 70 Challenger convertible off the original owner, It needs a total restoration but I dont have the $$$ to do it and cant bring myself to sell it either. Keep us posted and Have a Happy Thanksgiving Its pretty sad when Bob constantly has to come here to defend himself and his operation from those who dont know him, my gosh he's like the air,all over the place . Next time before those who chose to question him PLEASE go to BGR and meet the guy/crew and you will see what he is all about and I guarantee all doubts will be cleared up on his motives and directions of the Mopar community.

416 stroker from Nick at Compu-flow. 11.14 in full street trim. Seems like a new best every time out.
11.06 open headers----so far!!
