Has anyone ever run a electric fuel pump with a hi performance mechanical pump in the same system? Its on a mild bracket/street car, I have a BG HR220 and i'm looking for some security in a mechanical pump for long term driving or long trips. I dont want to get stranded with my electric pump. Any experience or opinions?

NHRA used to require the stockers to run a mecahnical pump with a the electric pumps years ago. I ran a Holley blue pump with no regulator to a Carter NASCAR Hemi race mechanical pump on my M.W. stocker for years, no street use If your going to do that I would use the BG feul regulator before the mecahnical pump to make sure that the electric pump would not rupture the diaphram on the mechanical due to to high of inlet pressures of the BG pump. The BG HR pumps are designed to be a street pump, what are your worrys on running it by itself?

Derick, you should be just fine with a high volume mech. Theres 1 (carter) that doesn't require a Reg. that puts out good volume, Mancini racing sells them, the one i'm useing does require a reg., this should be all the pump you'll need for even a mild stroker, hell i ran 12.5s with a house pump & never starved for fuel.

Here it is.

Derick,
I noticed that on the 1-2 shift my pressure was down to about 1/2 psi with just the carter Hivol Mechanical, so I installed a cater electric to push the fuel to the mechanical pump, seems to be working fine.
I also ran this setup on my previous car for a couple of years with no problems.

I've been running my car with the Carter electric that needs no regulator preset is 7lb i believe and feeds to a Carter Hi performance mech.Just lately i had noticed the pressure was too high and put a regulator on it but then i also just bought a new gauge and it showed it as too low.I think it ended up being a bad gauge.Just make sure you have a good hi po mech. pump and you'll be fine.

We ran a Carter hi vol mechanical pump(the one that doesn't use a regulator) with a Holley red out back.It worked great.

Thanks for all the responses guys, it definately makes me feel better about running a tadem setup. After hearing a few of you I may eliminate the electric all together. Its reliability I'm after right now, I want to make it way more of a driver than a bracket car nowadays. Thanks again
Derick
