actually Cab it is just a couple of rockers that are giving me fits and almost always #6 intake. I've changed the rocker arm out for another , I've use another pushrod and I have checked clearance between the head and the pushrod. Missing a shift point or going too high on the burnout and you can count on a weak cyl , and it's always the valve out of adj. or the pushrod is off. Could it be a weak spring? Also have the same problem with Crane ductile irons , but not as frequent

Thanks 493 Dart, this where it runs the best. I've tried from 6000 to 6900 and 6800 is where it runs the best. It has ez max port heads and 5500 stall , 488 gears. Only 12 to 1 cr

Thanks BG I checked all that when doing geometry for pushrod length. But I am going to do a lobe lift check next just to see if I got a cam going south. Really confused on this ! I'm seriously thinking the flat tappet stuff just isn't gonna handle these rpms. ?

Also look at the height of the retainer and top of the valve stems, the locks may be sinking in the retainers.

What heads? I had a flat tappet in my 499 last year and shifted it at 6900 with no problems but it was quite a bit larger than your cam.
I switched to a roller this year and when I pulled the springs off the Indy heads the shims they used under the springs must have been soft and were all chewed up. Might want to check that.
