Im looking into putting a floor shifter in the Dart. What are you guys running? It looks like there are three main types; Ratchet, Detent and Gate. Whats the difference? Which one would be best for a street strip car?

I just bought the B&M Quick Silver. It is a ratchet action. Works great.

Another Vote for the Quicksilver unit. I run it in all my cars. The rachet is self-centering meaning it always goes back to center(no matter which gear you are in), it has a reverse lockout, Seems impossible to steal as nobody but me seems to know how it works(it is easy), and I believe if I use the same shifter in every car, it might prevent me from getting confused.

I'm running a b&m hammershifter (80888 i think). I put it in a 72 demon with bench seats so its kind of forward on the tunnel so I wanted as short of a shifter handle as possible. The ratchet function is cool but its a little tricky to get the hang of until you use it a bit.

I put the B&M Quicksilver in my coupe as well...seems alright so far...but the car isn't finished yet.

Q for you guys running this. When putting the shifter in 'D'...does it automatically drop down into the ratchet mode for you, or do you have to push the shifter handle down?

Mine drops down right away, but looking at the mechanism it looks like it should stay up and then require me to push it down if I want it to go into ratchet mode.

You pull it into D and it's in ratchet mode. You can't go up into park unless you are in D. Then you lift it out of the gate and move it up. I have a reverse Man valve body so I pull back on the stick to go up...you'll simply nudge it up from 1st if you want to shift manually.

It should drop down.

I ran a QuickSilver. I liked it. Now I have a B&M Pro ratchet. I like it as well.

I also have a quicksilver in my 69 Dart. If you have a bench seat it gets kind of close to the dash. Bucket seats no problem.

That was a concern of mine, as my car has a bench seat as well.

i went with the CHEETAH SCS. one of the better decisions i have made. operates very smooth and the thing i think i like best is how the cable runs around the rear of the tans. keeps it away from all the heat and other crap that is near the front of the trans..

it fit and worked great with my bench seat also..

It's better to keep your mouth shut and give the impression that you're stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

Also, the 5 ft long cable they give you was a little too long for me. Too much slack and couldn't keep it away from the headers so it melted after about 100 miles. So far so good on the 4foot cable

B&M Star shifter. Had it for who knows how long now... maybe 16, 17 years?? Still works excellent. Will never change to a different one.

Best shifter I ever ran. Had them in different cars!

Another vote for the Quicksilver, here. I like the way it looks and feels, and it works great.
