Does Hurst make a flat stick handle for the comp plus shifter besides the pistol grip for 68 and 69 console equipped b-bodies? I bought a new shifter and a #4084 handle and thought I was good but it hits the dash in first and third. Got to thinking and about every time I've seen this combination it's been on a 66-67, which probably has a tighter dash? I noticed the console pistol grip has a dogleg my 4084 handle doesn't. Wouldn't take much but it would probably be enough to ruin the chrome. Any ideas?

Can you "pie-cut" it below the boot and reweld it? Just throwing it out there...

First off 68 and 69 NEVER had a pistol grip unless someone installed it. Starting in 1970 there was a SPECIAL shifter box that had longer arms out the bottom that shortened the throw , it's 70 B body ONLY, you need one of them.

I thought I just saw one for sale in the transmission for sale section?

...If the lever's below the pivot were longer, there would be a shorter stroke above at the lever. Does HURST or anyone else make a shorter stroke "SHIFTER" out there. I'm not going to have the Shifter-to-dash problem you have, but I'd like a little shorter stroke my self.

...Could you post a pic of your lever?

Yeah I know the pistol grip was a 1970 only, I was just noticing the difference in how the handle is bent. I think the idea of pie cutting the stick might work, but it probably needs to be done above the boot to keep the boot/console alignment right. I'm thinking a little down there will make a considerable difference at the knob end. I've got an extra #4084 handle that needs rechroming anyway. Might experiment with it!

There are a few different shifter mounting plates.
Mabe you could find one that brings the shifter back some.

It would be nice if it were that simple , the bolt patterns on the trans have different spacing so only a mount made to fit in that specific spot will work .

That's a good deal on Russ' shifter box, and the PROPER fix.

I've done it in my 70 RR. Best & Cheapest way to go IMO.

Hurst Shifters (username) on ebay is selling a competition plus kit for console 66-69 b-bodies. I'm curious as to which handle they're using. I can't get the photo to load. If it's the 4084 I beg to differ. I might send him a message and ask. Thanks for the help fellas!

When I installed a 71 B-body bench seat pistol grip in my 64 Polara with a console, it would hit the dash in 1st and 3rd. I used a new Hurst Comp plus, but not the one you guys are talking about. I drilled a hole just to the rear of the bottom hole in the handle (bolt in style) to lean it back a little then welded up the front hole so it wouldn't slip and that fixed the probelm. No cutting the handle. Been in there for 5k miles and LOTS of gear slams!

I did mssg the ebay guy and his shifter uses that same handle/stick. He says he's sold hundreds of them and never had an issue. To give the devil his due it did go fully into gear but the shifter was touching the dash. A friend of mine said why not just wrap the handle in rags and put it in a press. I decided to give it a shot. Fogged the chrome just a little but I have a couple inches now with a round knob and a little less with a T handle. I think it'll work. Thanks!
