I aint never had that much intrusion of combustion gases onto the face of a copper gasket....like you were saying either not enough tension on the bolts or some serious detonation..though pistons all look fine, correct...with the amount of water getting into the cylinders also you must have had a sealing problem.....I always use permatex 300 slathered on all 4 surfaces and never a water, oil or cumbustion leak before.

thanks for the link she was leaking bad forsure.
i have to clean the cylinder wall before i pull the pistons to try to save the rings that are new.on some pistons all in the quench area on the carbon buildup only you could see signs of detonation on 3 of the pistons.looks like i got lucky.

about 4 dyno pulls and 7 passes.i am sure the head bolts were loose from the start and i should have noticed it on the dyno.the head bolts[ARP] are older[10 yrs] with about 8 retorques.

Just reinstall those old head bolts with lockwashers on them, and you'll be good for another 10 years.

I'd be lookin' at why those bearings don't show a little more even wear across the surface. Crank flexing, block flexing, caps walking, tapered or hourglass journals... gotta' be a reason. I'd mic that crank all over all its journals, maybe set the block up for a light swish with the line hone to see if the main line is still straight.

Seduce the attractive, and charm the rest. ****** 489 C.I.D., roller cam, aftermarket heads, tunnel ram, stock '54 Dodge rear axle assembly: which of these doesn't belong?
