ScottG OP enthusiast S Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 259 Ohio	Hey Guys, I have a 04 Caravan 3.8 that the water pump seal went bad last week. It leaked antifreeze on the belt and the belt started to chatter only at idle in gear. It has 92K on it so I replaced the pump and belt. But the belt still chatters. When I start it no niose, but as soon as I put it in gear the RPM,s drop a little and the niose starts. Get the RPM,s up a bit then it quits. Any ideas? This is driving me nuts! wingman Uncreative Title Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 3,381 St. Charles, MO	Our 05 did the same thing. Ordered the tensioner assy and an idler pulley from Rockauto and that fixed it. moretoys top fuel M Joined: Mar 2003 Posts: 1,728 ST clair shores MI	If you have the alternator with a clutch on the end,Then I would say that is you're problem.I know 2005 and newer have them,not sure if 04's did.I have replaced them for that reason.did an 05 about 4 days ago for a noise.reman alt does not come with a new clutch on it.straight pulley, and parts/clutch are not servicable.Take a long screwdriver and rest it on the alt,put you ear on the handle of screwdriver, see if you here a noise.noise will travel through it pretty clearly.

I could see the belt out of gear rideing smooth as soon as she put it in gear with the brakes on the belt starts to jump around and chatter. Would the alt clutch cause that? Or the tensioner? Or do you think maybe getting antifreeze on the pulleys is the problem?
