Last month my 318 magnum ran 13.5@102. I changed the vac carb to a double pumper because the 60' was 2.0. It worked and went 1.88 60' and 13.19@1o4 first pass. I also made a ram air air cleaner and that got a 13.05@105 so I pulled the air filter and power steering belt and got 12.998@ 106.3.

Its a stock 98 318, with a little porting, comp xr265 roller, air gap intake, 750 dp, headers, 2.5" exhaust, 3000 stall, 727, 4.10 gear with 28" dot slick.

At 6pm sat they let us do some free lapping on the road course. I put my street tires on which are 295/50R15 on back and 275/50R15 on the front.
I burned the brakes up in 3 laps the first time out. I let it cool and did 7 or 8 laps and didn't use the brakes hard. Car handles extremely well but I think I broke the drag shocks. I want to put a front sway bar on it and good shocks and do it again. I could hit 100mph on both straights. I saw my shift light in 2nd on another stretch in the middle so thats around 80 mph. I ran it as a 2barrel because low speed in 2nd and flooring it would bog. I basically ran 2nd gear except on the straights.

Being a fellow 318 racer I'm interested in your progress. What was the temp & track conditions when you recorded these improvements. Also the weight of the car if I may ask. Thanks

The car is in the 3300lbs range, was 3450 with an iron headed 383 last time on the scales with me in it. Sat was a tailwind and around 18C, the wind was cold. No idea what the elevation was but the track is at 700 feet. Was a good air day. Sunday the car slowed 1.5 tenth and ran into a head wind. Last month it was really hot so the air was likely good for at least a tenth or more.
60' is still slow so there is more in it with carb tuning.

This is likely as far as I go with the 318, I may switch to a stock 360 shortblock with all these parts. Trying to get my girlfriend to race 12.90 index, I need a few tenths to cover the number in the heat.

If I were to continue the 318 I would put a zero deck piston in it and a little more cam and some good rod bolts. Pistons alone might get it where I want it.

I'm impressed with it so far.

Good info. Have you tried a carb spacer? Also just FYI, mine likes a fresh set of plugs. May be albe to use that to help you on the hot days stay in the 12.90 class. I tried a .040 gap & the car didn't like it. Went right back to the .032.

I would like to see what that would do with a 650 double pumper. May help your low end.

I agree 100%, i've got just about the same combo & race weight, that car has 12.5s in it, i'm running a 360 magnum with stock lowerend, RHS heads, RPM knockoff, small roller, stock valvetrain, headers, 2800 11" PTC, 904, 3.73 gears with a 27" MT DR, car runs 12.5s/12.6s @ 104/105, 60fts around 1.82, best of a 1.79, this is shifting at 5100, & YES it has a 650dp & the 60ft. is alot better then a 750 3310, i'm sure that 750 is hurting your 60ft. Theres still alot of tricks i can do with this combo & knock off a couple tenths, just having fun running alittle juice through it right now .

I see you gained a tenth with a homemade cold-air setup, how did you do it? Any pics?
