I just clamped a big Vise Grip Pliers on and went to town w/a hammer.

I put the hammer to the vise grips, there weren't any scratches, as the grips never slipped, and came out easily. Would maring them up have caused stress points in the bars? Just gripping the bars with the Vise Grips would have the same effect as the tool above, wouldn't it?
