I have a 2001 Neon ACR and I am getting a little popping sound on take off from the front end, not bad but noticeable. I have also noticed that the front end feels like it "wanders" a little on some roads. I have checked the tie rod ends and lower ball joints they seem fine, if I push down and the front end it rebounds nice and firm and doesn't bounce or anything. I am leaning toward lower control arm bushings being worn but wanted other suggestions in case there is a pattern problem with these cars. The car hasn't been abused or hot rodded since new so the front end hasn't seen anything more than normal driving. THanks for any advice out there.

The lc bushings are known for going bad.The big round rear one.It rips out of the steel part.Usually you can see the A arm sitting on the frame. They arent that hard to replace unless the captured nut in the frame brakes loose from the weld.Rocky

Wifes car is on it's 3rd set at 77,000 miles.

First time factory arms replaced under warranty, second time I just replaced all bushings with Moog, this last time I went with aftermarket arms.

ALso check for broken or blown out motor mount.

A related topic on the LCA and other Neon bushings. There are two types available. The OE style rubber/steel and Urethane. The urethane use the existing shells. I guess you cut/burn out the old rubber center and slip them in. Benefits are 1) stiffer bushings 2) don't need a press or machine shop to install 3) lower cost. Drawbacks are? I'll likley be doing one withinthe next few months.

Anybody have experience with the urethane bushing kits?

The bushings also have a notch that has to go in one way.I believe it goes toward the front. Its been a while since I did a set.Rocky
