340 block 4.08" bore Eagle 4340 4.0" Crank 6.123" H beams KB Forged dish pistons 10.3:1 Compression Milodon 7 QT Pan, Moroso electric water pump INDY/RHS LA-X heads, 2.055"/1.60" valves Heads got 5 angle valve job, back cut intake valves, bowl ported & little pushrod pinch work. No flow #'s 1.5:1 Rockers Bullet Solid "street" roller, 264/268 @ .050", 108 LSA, .604"/.594" lift, Herbert lifters Crane 3/8" pushrods INDY 360-3 Oval port intake converted to std pattern/rectangle port.
Ran 3 different carbs on it, 950HP, 750 Proform, 830 Holley
The 950 worked best... the 830 was junk, The 750 was only down 3 HP, but off about 12-15 FT Lbs, & actually moved TQ band up about 300 RPM for some reason....
Never dynoed anything with magnum based on heads on it before.. Thought this combo may eak out 550, & was surprised when we surpased that on the 2nd pull.
The INDY intake was a wildcard & did what I hoped it would do.... it made TQ... It would have been alot easier to run a victor or SV on this combo but I decided early on in the going that I'd try an ICH -3 due to runner length. This motor actually made better TQ than a 12.5:1 416 Edelbrock that had better heads, more cam etc. That had a SV on it... Granted that one made 50 more HP up top, but could not match this one for TQ. & the INDY was not hurting HP by any stretch of imagination....
I guess biggest surprise I had was how much timing it wanted.... was not happy making power with less than 38 degrees in it, would not have expected that...
This will be a real nice little street motor.... lot's of TQ right off the bottom, nothing radical, easy to work on... simple & straightforward.
Those RHS heads definitely work really well, without alot of... well work. For a more mild motor, they are by far best bang for buck head out there, especially considering how high E heads have gotten in price. Just have to be willing to live with the weight penalty of iron & the cooling differences etc.

KB's with a dish in .08" OS--not that I know of. 6000+ rpm peak hp on a 418 ci with that CS? BIG cam though, WOW! J.Rob

pump gas?
10.3:1 compression,I would hope so!!!
With iron heads i would not bet on it.

Outstanding
Ryan, What do you think this motor would do with the same prep work on a set of eddie or indybrock heads.
What would be the approx cost of a set of heads done like this vs the others above mentioned?
Same prep.... 580's & would probably make little less TQ, especially @ the lower RPM's Although it would have issues @ 10.3:1 with alum heads... The compression ratio this thing was going to end up with was one of reasons I ended up going with these heads on this motor (long story involving a previously machined heavily decked block, milled down pistons & other factors) This was originally going to be an Edelbrock head motor...
Edel heads with same prep would be about $550-$600 more.
There is no direct bolt on INDY intake for std bolt pattern/port heads.
& No pricing on motors on board, I'll PM you an idea of what motor like this costs.

With that much stick, it should run on pump gas on the pump AND in the car.
Ryan, how could no have any flow numbers???? Grrrr
What is the deck height/head gasket/quench combo?
Are those heads cool or what??
Yes pump gas. I did not do a cyl press test, but I'm sure it's not up there....
Flow #'s not important to me
Don't ask about deck height. I'll just say it has a .040 gasket, piston is now @ zero deck. Block came to me as a used piece that was heavily decked & I had to machine pistons to set @ zero.... was just a pain.
Heads are pretty cool for what they cost. This was upgrade set with some custom valves ICH had made for roller cam use, hence why the 2.055 head.... I actually set these up @ 1.82" IH, but I had plenty of height to kill off. I think I could have done a 1.90 in it.

Thanks Ryan. One (but 3 parts) more and I'll leave it alone (maybe)...
Is the runner length of the Indy intake longer than the SV, and if so how much and how do you think that effects the power.
Yes it's visibly longer than the SV, although I have not measured the SV. I have never put an INDY on anything that has not ran quite well, did'nt matter if it was a 500 HP flat tappet 340, Dirt track W2 360, 450" INDY -1 motor making 760+ HP. It is just a great very versitile intake manifold that works well on a wide variety of engines. I'd loved to have dynoed this thing with this intake & then an RPM Air gap.... but was'nt to be.

No. I changed the bolt pattern on the intake.
