I had my trans rebuilt 2 years ago by supposedly good shop. well the trans pulls great, but sometime when taken off it wanted to jump in out of gear which I learn to feather it when taken off, then there was the tq converter locking and unlocking when I have the cruise on... well now it seem to hold second gear alot longer now I really don't have the money to rebuilt the trans again still have a few payment left from the first time should I try changing the fluid and filter?? I really need help on this please trans god can someone recommend something to try? 99 ram auto 46re I think.

So, how many miles have you put on the trans since it was rebuilt? In many cases, the miles tell a different story then the amount of time.

That said, I'd go for the filter and fluid change, and adjust the trans kick down linkage as well. Can't hurt, might make the difference.

I put on about 20,000 miles since the rebuilt.

Some of the larger chain auto supplies will read the codes for you for free.

Make sure the fluid is at the full mark--hot.
The converter locking and unlocking, is ussually from electrical noise in the harness.
Make sure the battery cables are real clean, especially the grounds.
And, you are not going to hurt it by changing the fluid/filter. The filter may be partially plugged. Do not let someone talk you into a flush. They won't change the filter.
Let us know how it turns out.

well today went to pass a car the truck just wouldn't go till I let off the pedal and ease back on it. tach rose to 3000 rpm, it still holding second alittle longer then before. I sure I going to have to bring in to the trans shop again is there anything I could try? I don't rag my stuff I know it time for a fluid change but I not sure it would be a good idea the way it running now... I worry that my job is going to fold and with all I got going out I don't think I can take on another bill! I'm really depress over this...

46RE has an electronic governor but the line pressure is controlled by a regulator valve just like a 727.

Terry , you need to take it to a shop , it's very hard to try to diagnose your problem as evidenced by the silence of those that are very knowledgeable in these transmissions.

I called them they thinking it need a band adjustment! One of the mechanic in the shop where I work say it might be something wrong in the valve body soo I going to take it in to the shop got my finger cross that it be something simple!

Governor pressure transducer or sensor problem wouldn't surprise me...along with a possible bad seal in the rear clutch piston.
If it's a sensor problem, there should be a P code when scanned.
Be careful who you "trust" to check this out.
