I'm taking my 16yr old nephew to us 131 tonight to make his first passes, should be a fun night i have not been to the race track in about 5yrs, but my nephew wants to start racing so here we go.
He's going to be driving my dads 2010 challenger r/t.
My first pass was in a v6 dakota work truck and i still loved it.

I was about 17 yrs old and my dad and I took his 69 440 cuda to New England Dragway. First pass I went something like a 11.40@117MPH.
Heres the car...

in 1969 I had a 64 dart GT with a 225 and 3 on the tree running Q/Stock...that was at GreatLakes Dragaway in Union Grove, Wisc.

72 duster, 360 4 gear 3.23 gears.

Ran a 14.9 at like 99mph.

I didnt know what I was doing. Engine ran awsome, 509 cam, J heads, good cheap parts.

with dual quads... I later put a hemi in it... that was
back when I was 16... that was at Detroit Dragway...

1969 @ NED in a 64 Falcon 289 3-speed.....later swapped in a 70 Boss 302 4-speed drive-train out of an insurance totaled purchase ($300) that literally tore the car apart at the seams, but was a blast

in my 69 charger, first car I ever owned. it ran 14.26 @ 96.24 mph back in 6/11/95. the last clean run it made was an 11.05 @ 120.62 on 5/20/2007. still have all the time slips. and old pics

My dart in 1990. I went 11.94@ 117 mph and got yelled at, told to slow down or go home. It had 3.5 gears, McCeary dirt track tires, no roll bar, no drive shaft loop, just lap belts and I had an un certified helmet. They told me to stay over 12.oh

On top end I had all kinds of leaves swirling around in the car, guess 117 mph was enough to blow out vent grate since I had just removed the heater

02 90 chevy lumina 3.5 17.20's paid $500 for it. by the end of the year i won more with it than i payed for it.

1983 Dodge Omni 2.2 (at least it was a Mopar!) - I was 16 years and 2 days old. I got my license on a Wednesday and on Friday I drove my dad's 1983 Dodge Omni to Avilla Dragway near Ft. Wayne, IN. My first pass was 11.737 at exactly 60.00mph in the 1/8th of course. The legal speed limit at the time was 65mph!

I also won my first elimination round against a guy in a Corvette dialed in the high 8's. I swear I was at half track before he left the line - the crowd was on their feet!

Attachment is the same scene, but on a different night...They made me take the hubcaps off, but I didn't mind - made it look "tougher"!

1967 Chevelle street car.It had a mild 327 ,Offy intake and 3 rochestor 2 barrels (i got the carb and intake setup whole for 100 bucks used) ,PG ,and 3.73 gears .It went 14.53 at like 96 in the 1/4.I was 16 and built the car myself in 1989 .Great memories and still race at this track occasionaly now,but in a little faster car ...

My first pass was the summer just after I turned 16. I was driving my Aspen! Boy was that nerve racking!!! It is a street car, but I hadn't driven the car before that really. Finished the car and loaded it up and headed to the race track. That was 6 years ago now.

1970 Challenger 383 auto 3.23 open. Spinning like crazy it ran high 15's (15.80ish) I can't remember it was 1983 at Orlando Speedworld. No digital pics to post. I remember the times were hand written.

My first pass was in my grandfather's '72 Demon. I ran a 13 something because I let off at about the 1000' mark. The car had way too much gear and was getting up to what I thought was really high rpm. My dad told me to run it out the back door so I did the rest of the day and squeaked a 12.6 out of it.

68 Dart GTS 383, all stock with 3.23 open. Ran 14.51 first pass. Wish I knew then what I know now, I'd still own it.

At age 28 made my first pass in a 6.9 second quick 8 dragster that took me 18 months to build by myself.

Have never been down the track in a door car.

Oh I forgot, the first pass was in a super gas car at Frank Haleys drag race school. It was about 4 months before I got the dragster going. I was supposed to be in a dragster but got put in a door car. I think maybe like 3 or 4 passes and only the last one was a full pass.

1973 at Texas Raceway, it was still a 1/4 mile track then. I took my pride and joy 68 RR 4spd 3.91 gears to 14.90's. I found it much harder to hook at the track than on the street. I was content with the high 14 second pass as most of the 396 Chevelle's were in the 15's. I was 17 and bought the RR from the original owner in February that year.

1968 at PID Pittsburgh International Dragway which closed in 1978. It was a Friday night & all my high school buddies were there. I had a 63 plymouth fury with a hopped up 318, went 14 something. Liked it so much, I made 25 passes between friday & sunday. I was 16 at the time and would skip lunch for weeks at a time to get a speed part for that car. I later put a Max Wedgie in it.
