What car did u guys make your first pass in?

I made my first pass in grandma's '72 Dart at Great Lakes Dragaway. That was back in 1978.

In 1981 I did my first trip to Connecticut Drag Way.1973 Gold Duster the same one I still have.

late 1968 at Keystone Raceway Park (now Pittsburgh Raceway Park).

I had a 58 Plymouth Fury 2dr hardtop with at 361, two Carter WCFB's from the factory......man, I wish I still had that car....

16 years old. 68 Roadrunner, 440, ran 7.60s 1/8th mile. Was supposed to make an easy pass and shift at 3500. Dad said to let out after half track. Well I launched and it felt good so I just made a full pull right off the bat. Been hooked ever since!

1970 Duster 340 vitamin c orange with factory black painted top, back in 1987 at the now gone Avilla Motor Speedway in Indiana. Ran 9.22 in the 1/8th. Did my first motor build and ran 8.55 with a slipping 727. This was a street car that I drove over, changed to slicks and opened the exhaust to race. My dad had bought it in '83 in Kentucky, and I traded him a crashed '68 Charger and a '73 Barracuda for it so I could race. I sold it back to him in '99 to get married, and he has restored it, takes it out every once in a while in Tennessee.

1979 4-door Slant 6 Dodge Aspen. As a youngster I never raced at a strip, so in 2005 at the Mopar Nationals, I took our granny Aspen show car down the track--ET was 21 secs. But I was hooked and now go to the track at least once a month. Probably will take my 2010 Chally SE to the Classic at Kil-Kare tomorrow.

1963 Max wedge Plymouth Sport Fury Convert 3 speed on the floor. Ran 13.49 @ 109.

turned 16 in October, got license in hand the following march, April I was at Milan Dragway running a 1981 Mustang notchback with a 5.0 auto. cant remember what it ran, 15's? First run I went up and rolled the line, started staging with the rear tires.

Later that summer, I had a 1968 road runner, 383 automatic.

1957 in a 1955 Ford 272" 2 bbl. No times. No clocks. Flagman at the start and a flagman at the finish to indicate the winner. No drivers license. I was only 12 but that didn't make any difference to anybody. On the old airport runway, parts of which are still left.

66 dart 4dr, 76 360 short block bone stock includeing 2bbl cam, 302 heads from 87 318 360 4bbl iron intake, 2.94 7.25 open diff 205-70-15 tires, managed a 9.43 @ 74ish with a 2.0 flat 60ft. Actually the first pass was like 14seconds or so, every one told me it would hook way better than it did on the street and I should launch with brake and gas mashed, I smoked the one tire the entire 1/8th mile after that I did it my way and came in 2nd place for the eavning foot brake bracket.

a 1975 duster with a 225 sloper. 18.0@85mph with it left in Drive. felt like i could get out & walk faster.

59 plymouth sport fury 361 golden commando. in 1963. mid sixteen second car. Humbolt Ia. And I was fast for a stocker.

21 when I made my first pass in a brand new 1968 GTX 440 4 speed, no air, no power brakes, no power steering, forest green, 4.10 dana 60 rear. Had saved every penny I could get my hands on while in nam for 18 month's so I could pay cash for a new car. I ordered it the way I wanted it. Man I loved that car. Sold it after a year because I HAD to get married.

In my 65 f100 with the sreemin 289 in it went around 10.0 in the 1/8 at Fayetteville NC back in '94

Ran a 16 with a 440 .040 over I had built when I was 16. LOL Still have the car, though.

1967, I was 16. I had bought a 392 Hemi and rebuilt it to put in a 36 Ford coupe,a couple years before. It was taking to long to finish that car, and I put the 392 in my 57 Chrysler 2 dr. "parts car" and took it to Bullet Dragway in Ky. Also known as "Cedar Creek".
I think it ran a 16 something in the 1/4.

First pass I ever made was a 16:2@92 in my '69 442 Olds. It didn't have much gear in it and I had borrowed a pair of 28X7 slicks for it.

1st pass was in a pee yellow 68 GTX at Strato Rods.Got my butt whooped by an Altered named Mountain Dew.Spotted me almost half track .

Left,went to Atco that night,got my butt beat again by an old black primered Falcon with five foot ladder bars.

I was 14 in 1982, driving Dad's 69ish Chevy convertable. He got it for free, and it was worth it! 327 2bbl. First pass was with him in the car, I spun off the line and ran a 17.64. The car had run a 17.11 with him in it earlier that evening, and since I weighed 170 lbs less than him, he wanted me to try to get it to run 16.99. My second and last pass was an .034 reaction and a 17.04 at 80 mph. I grew up at the track, so I figured I'd race something at some point. The pic is with my dad driving.

Fully equipped 72 Charger, stock 400/Auto/4.10 gears and recurved distributer ran 14.70's back in 1981. Now I delegate the driving to the boy. Would like to build a D-Dart with a modern engine combo.

Willys body with a Flathead Chrysler 6 , 38 Dodge 3 speed, 3x2's headers,7 inch slicks, all steel body with safety glass, 4.78 gear. The car would run 14.50's all day long at 91 mph in 1968.Motor was set back through the firewall. I was 15 when I retired the car and it now sits between my 2 68 Hemi Cudas. It raced around central Ohio from 1962-1968 by my dad, my brother Jerry and then me. It can be seen at www.sledcityevents.com

Seriously,my first pass down the track was in my 300C last summer.I managed to get two passes in before it rained and the traction control kept kicking in even after turning it off.
best 15.77.I know the car--and driver--can do better.

The Hemi

17 years old, 1976 Aspen with a 340. Went 12.94 eventually got it down to 11.70's. Was a fun street racer ride.

I was 16 and it was at Gateway. Ran a totally stock 73 Charger SE with 318. I and want to say 16.8 but would not swear to it.

Late starter.

'68 Valiant 100 w/ a 170. Blistered the quarter mile @ the old Gateway to the tune of 21.15 @ 65mph.

Dropped in a mild 360 and ran high 13's/low 14's in 100% street trim after that.

If I re-call...a 1974 International Travelall...lmao...the first truck I bought....68 International P/U...what a beast...and finally got to drive dads 68 Pontiac Ventrua 4 speed 428....that was a rare and very cool car...then someone stole it from my moms yard. Havent ever seen it again. My dad can STILL after 30 years rattle off the complete VIN number of that car...he is still looking for it. ( dad was a cop)

1993-94

First and only time in my bee in 90 or 91 was a grudge or should i say dare with a chevelle,he never lined up with me cause he said i couldn`t turn quicker than 14,went 13.609 at 104 second pass.Was a 69 z28 camaro against me that I only seen at line then at green I was gone.Was told it was 5 or 6 car links behind.Chevelle guy was throwing his carburetor on his trailor last i saw him.I guess he lost quite a bit of cash and pride on a side bet.I went 14.001 first pass.The chevelle was 327 66 that its quickest was 14.20`s or so with slicks and only raced.Julesburg Colorado dragway,air strip.I will be back to see what it does with my dream parts in it.Funny how those type memories can bring on a grin..

This pic actually was my very first pass in '84. '73 Chally at Polar Raceway (now Alaska Raceway Park)in Palmer AK. I was stationed at Ft Richardson in Anchorage and a buddy of mine talked me into taking it to the track and the rest, as they say, is history, I was bit HARD! Car ran a blistering 15.46. Had a warmed over, and probably really poorly tuned 318.

1965 273 2 bl baby blue Plymouth Barracuda with a black 66 type racing stripe in 1966. Ran I/SA pure stock at 17.40's (later got her down to 17.20's) at Pittsburgh International Dragway at Cecil Township in SW PA. Won the class trophy but did not even know I could stay and run eliminator. Won three more class trophys and once made it to the last run for Pure Stock Eliminator. Got down to the last foot or two of the strip before a 66 red post coupe Plymouth Belvedere II w/ 383 4bl caught me. Love those Plymouths, it was so close, just a great memory. It was a great strip at the time and invited or paid many big name Funny Car and top fuel drivers to come in. Those were some special days. Still have some slides of many beautifully painted 65 Plymouth and Dodge Hemis including the one with the honking goose on the side (can't remember the real name or the driver's name of that white Dodge if I can remember that much).

First time was with my 70 6pak Cuda. All stock with 3.23 gears went something like 14.6's or 14.7's.

1964 impala ss w/327 2sp auto.WHAT A DOG!!!!!!.It actually ran pretty good once you got it rollin.that was in 1965.

well we had fun, my nephew went 14.48 @98 mph. not to bad, and he did cut a .027 light. I think he's hooked.

I made my 1st pass in a 73 Duster when I was 16 - I made 1 pass in the 12.7 range and got kicked out for having no helmet, no loop, no catch can, and no cut off switch. I ended up running on the street for a few years because it was closer to home and didn't have a tech god giving me crap.

My 2nd pass was when I was 19 in my daily driver 74 Toyota - 120ci 4 cyl/5 speed/3.70 gear - cut a 16.6 @ 83mph, I started going back after that, the 2 local tracks had new owners and were friendly to street cars, when I went the first time if you didn't have a bracket car with 14x32's they didn't want you there.

1971 Plymouth Barracuda. I put a 360 out of a 78 cop car and thought I was fast just because I could beat 5.0 mustangs.It went 15.1 @ 92 mph at out high elevation LACR track. That was back in 1993. I wish I still had the car!!

Made my first ever pass in the summer of 72.

I had bought a 69 Green 340 swinger from a spoiled rich kid down the street who had beat the urine out of it since his parents bought it brand new for him in 69.
Bone stock 3.23 geared 340 with a set of headers on it and a shift kit.
I ripped off a 14.31 with it

Paid 1200 for it, and 3 years old it already had big enough holes in both quarters to roll a baseball through.

It later got stolen outside philly, while i was inside working in a shoe store as an 18 year old.
Never got it back and went in the service a short while later.


Later, in the service,(1975) at that time stationed in San Francisco, i spotted a b5 69 340 swinger in the parking lot of the barracks. Long story short i got it( sweet car with 4 speed) even up swap for an older Honda 450 i had. Great deal

had that car quite a while.

Converted it over to an auto, transferred to Norfolk, Virginia, and campaigned it several seasons at old Suffolk dragway on Sundays.
that car ended up running 12.20's and was a blast.
It had an unfortunate demise as well.

Went on a 6 month cruise overseas, and slowly, after about 4 months being gone, my buddies wife sent him letters on our ship saying people had stolen the tires and wheels off it in the apartment complex parking lot where i had left it. next the top of the motor was unbolted, and when i returned, water was standing in all the bores.

I was mighty stupid and sold it for 500 bucks

I dont know if i am any smarter today, but i sure would like to have that mint bodied swinger for 500 now.

my first timeon a track was about 1977 on an oval track.
we ran 2 car drags around Freeport speedway oval every sat night.
it was in my 73 4 dr Newport 440+6.
it always did well cause it was heavy and I took it easy on the curves. no idea on time cause it was just first across the line.still have the car.

They opened the track in 1980. I still remember driving my 70 Challenger R/T with the swapped in 426 Hemi to the track. I wasted quite a few dedicated racecars after opening the headers and airing down the street tires a bit. I lost the final by cutting a poor light though.

My brother's 57 Dodge D-500,I was 14 years old we dragraced on the dirt track at Heildalberg on the front straightaway near Bridgeville Pa.

My first time down the track was in 1988 when I was 16 in my '68 383 4-speed GTS......With a bone stock el-cheapo rebuild it ran 15.30's @ 99MPH on street tires, granny shifting........

Sears Point Raceway near Napa, CA. It was a real beater '68 Charger. 383 with purple shaft, stock 4bbl & manifold, X brand headers, and 3:91 gears. First run was crap as I was a little scared, but my best run that night was 14:23. Don't remember the speed.

I made my first 1/4 mile pass in my 65 Barracuda in the fall of 2000 at New York International near Rochester, NY. I went 14.97 sec at just over 98 mph, backed it up with a 13.92. Had some ah,ah, driver trouble on the first pass .

My first passes was in my first car when I was in high school, a then 3 year old 1975 Duster with a 318 automatic. Car was a 21,000 mile cream puff when I bought it. I put headers and duals on it, and it went a "blistering" 16.10 @ 82 mph.

My second car was a 64 Dart 273 pushbutton automatic. It was my moms car and after I blew the trans doing nuetral drops my parents traded it in and I bought it back and put a trans in it. My first pass was in the early 70s in it a small track near New Castle Pa./ Youngstown Ohio I can`t remember the name.

In 89' at Richmond Dragway in my AAR Cuda with a 440. Ran 11.71.

In my very own Duster.... the Silver Bullet GTX was in the other lane at a track rental at Milan back in 2005.

1971 CUDA 340..B7 with black top and interior...Column automatic...Ran 14.5s all day long with so-so tires and traction bars..I bought the car in 1979 for 750 bucks...
