With the not so new invention of the miniature oil filters (2.2L style) I was wondering if ther is really any reason to continue using the 90 degree filter adapter
Mine has sprung a leak at th block so was thinking of leaving it off and using the smaller filter to clear headers. Actually I think th std filter may actually fit without this adapter but would be really close to headers.
Soo are any of you still using the 90 degree adapter ?
And why ?
At this point it's starting to look like one more potential failure/ what th HeL it just failed

No, the labor is the same either way so why does anybody use these adapters when a small filter will clear everything
I already hav parts to go either way

I went to went back to the stock filter plate (modded w/ 4 additional holes) and a K&N shorty style filter. No more oil dripping on the headers from the 90* adapter ,D.

Never had a problem with the adapter, just need to use the proper gaskets and make sure the fastener is tight.
I like the biggest filter I can use; the tiny ones seem to me run in bypass too much if you have 50-80 PSI oil pressure.

Good point but I agree with topside,a smaller filter has way less filtering area & bypasses to much.

I have had a lot of problems with those stupid things leaking and most aplications don't really need them. The short fat oil filters are fine. Also if you have an iron adapter that is a nice little chunk of weight to ditch

What brand/part number are the short filters? On top of getting oil on the headers every time I change the oil I have a small leak on my adapter and I would really like to ditch it.

same as all the mopar SB take ph43 i think. and drill extra holes or enlarge the holes in the plate.

the ph43 is the shorter of the (2) std mopar filters. I think ph8A is the long one but are you inquiring about the one that is even way shorter than the ph43? I've seen it but I cant find the # for it.

The Fram PH3614 is for a neon but will seal and filter the oil for almost any mopar. It is a very small filter. For a long skinney filter the PH 3600 will fit, look up a 95 ford taurus 3.0 to get this one. Look up a filter for a 97 Ram with a 318 and you will get a PH16 if you get a Fram but they are horendus filters though, get any other brand you want just cross referance them to those numbers/vehicles.

ph3614 is just to damn small for a performance engine. Look up a turbo GLH like a 86 I think, there is a short fat filter for them. We used to put ph43's on 2.2, to help with oil starvation to the turbo.
