It shoot out water when filling the radiator and gas when turned on, this was not happening before. IS that normal? Plan on taking it to a shop to get tapped anyone done it themselves?

SportF pro stock S Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 1,213 Minn	Well, you probably need to re-thread it with a heli-coil kit. If you have ever tapped something before it is pretty easy. If you haven't then you should have someone give you a little lesson on it. You could probably do it on the engine. Ask around, some of your car friends might already have a heli-coil kit. 1969RR super stock 1 Joined: Aug 2009 Posts: 740 Anderson, IN	You say it shoots out gas??? That's not normal! The Exhaust studs go into the water jacket, so leaking coolant is normal, but I wouldn't think leaking gas is normal. Sounds like something else to me. Jeff

Are you sure that it is stripped or do you just need sealer on that bolt? On a small block it is just the end bolt on each head that is wet. If it is a big block all of them are wet and should have sealer.

1969RR super stock 1 Joined: Aug 2009 Posts: 740 Anderson, IN	If you have gas comming out an exhaust stud, you got major problems. Crack in the cyl head might cause that. You'd better make sure that is gas, and if it actually is gas, plan on a tear down! Jeff

j3wbagell OP member Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 149 Cen Fla	I have a SB, luckily it is the end bolt. I took a bolt to HD and wound up getting a few at ace, they had better machined tips, but none of them would screw all the way in and had bent threads after taking it out.

GwaiiEagle Mannix Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 964 Nanaimo, B.C.	use a bolt severely gooed with rtv sealant. like black or something. Even liquid teflon tape. Heavy goo,and bolt it on. Let it comeletely dry before you move the car. Also if you a Helicoil, and it sound like you might have to, use the liquid teflon on the outside of the Heli-Coil so that has a good seal too.

After sealing the bolt how can i get the remaining seal out of the head? How high is the risk in doing that instead of towing it to a mechanic?

How about a photograph? Gas as in petrol or gas as in steam from the rad?

GwaiiEagle Mannix Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 964 Nanaimo, B.C.	You can do the tap with a heli-coil. Or get the shop to do it. Getting it to the Shop?: Seriously goo the bolt and bolt it in as able. Let it dry overnight. Yerself: I recommend a helicoil and liquid teflon on the outside of the helicoil when you screw it in.
