I bought a set of Taylor Spiro-pro wires for my 440 (about 50 bucks) and had two ends pull off on me and I'm not entirely sure they are firing well (Odd miss).

Are the spiro-pros a good set? Should I just recrimp them and be done with it? How about Accel?

I'm not looking to spend too much, this isn't a performance application, per say. Just looking for some tips from the almighty font of knowledge that is moparts. I know I might get 15 differing opinions and I'm ok with that.

Surely you must be talking about the distributor end of the wire pulling apart? I would just recrimp them. When you buy the universal set (cut-to-length) you do your own crimping.

I've heard pretty good things about the taylor wires. Only time I've ever had any plug ends pull off is when I've tried to take a plug wire off while they're still warm. I burnt a couple ends up on my firecore wires and just recrimped them with connectors/boots from napa. I didn't use any special spark plug crimping tool, just my regular electrical crimping tool and I have had no problems. I just made sure to properly strip the insulation to the core of the wire first.

For a daily driver I'd grab a $40 set of cut to length MSD's from vato-zone. They come with a crimping tool as well.

Anything more than that would be money wasted IMO. I'm sure you could get away with less too.

Best wires I've ever used - haven't tried the ones made by MOPARTS member - are Belden, from Napa. Never had a set of their premium 7MM wires go bad or disintegrate.

The part number for a 440 is: BEL 700130 , the wires are a lifetime warranty [real warranty - just bring 'em in, swap 'em] Cost is $21.49, according to website.

Might just recrimp them as one of their assembly line workers might have had a bad day & got lax/sloppy. Not right but it does happen. Just use your wire crimper pliers as it has a plug wire section and go carefully keeping in mind that your goal is to end up w a round terminal when done so make multiple crimps a bit at a time and until you get it where it meets your satisfaction. Use a GENEROUS spray of silicone lube on the wire so it'll easily go thru the boot then do your crimping then pull it back. Want the lube so you dont make a break in the suppression core by tugging too hard

How do you know when it's time to change your spark plug wires? How long should these things last?

We run the Taylors on all our cars.I even have them on the Harleys.If you pulled an end off they were defective or you pulled awful hard.The ones on my 440 have been on at least 10 years with big tube headers and Ive had them off probally 60 times.Never pulled a boot off.That and they still fire like the day I put them on.Have and had them on at least 6 Mopars with headers.Did you use the diaelectric grease that comes with them?Ill replace mine next year as they are looking pretty old after all these years.Ill still save the old ones though.Rocky

While I had been happy with Belden( NAPA) ; I just had one cable go after 4 years. It was the short coil to distributor wire. I took that wire in and they said I had to remove the whole set for them to order me the warranty replacement set. With alot of grumbling I did that and they ordered the replacement set ( took 4 business days). Of course, it was the wrong replacement set.

They told me they could reorder and "maybe" get the right set in in another 3 to 4 days. No thanks!

Buy a set of FireCores and put this problem behind you for good..

I would go with firecores just met him at norwalk
and was impressed. He also has a new distributor set up so you dont have to grind on your heads for clearance.I have mopar perfomance wires on mine pn# p4529032 and have had no problems.Try to give the plug boots a 1/4 turn before pulling on them .
