Hey gang..
Quick question:
I'm getting ready to fire up the 440/727 that was placed in my '69 Charger 500 1 to 1.5 years ago. The motor/tranny that was installed came from a completely running/driving '69 New Yorker (IIRC). I've got the motor/ignition in a way I can fire up the motor. I'm going to install the radiator, but don't have tranny lines yet. Right now, there is a rubber line connecting the inlet/outlet on the tranny. Will it hurt the tranny if I fire up the motor for a couple of minutes?, no tranny engagement. It'll be a milestone in the car's project future.

Thanks in advance..

should be ok with no load on the output shaft.

Make sure the rubber line is secure on the ends so it doesn't blow off. Not sure if plain rubber fuel line hose will take the pressure itself because trans fluid pressure can be 100-150 psi.

I didn't think the pump was pumping in park. Ronnie

The pump is pumping whenever the crankshaft is turning.

To run it for even a few minutes there should be sufficient fluid in the trans to allow the converter to fill and bring the fluid level near full. Do the running in Neutral, not Park.

sorry to hijack the the thread but I have a somewhat related question.

I've got my new engine and trans in ready to run but am still waiting on the rear end. Would I be able to run this with out the rear end installed? I do have a driveshaft that I could use to plug the output shaft of the transmission but just want to make sure it would be ok to run in neutral as the other end of the driveshaft wouldn't be connected to anything.

If you run it in Neutral with the driveshaft disconnected from the rearend the shaft will turn due to the "windmilling" effect in the transmission. If you could find a way to support the driveshaft and keep it from turning you'd be OK.

If I were to use a tailshaft plug instead of installing the driveshaft would that work too?

The cooler has 30 psi max. from the trans.
lube circuit.
Gas hose & screw clamps will work fine, see
it alot on a permanent basis on drivers.
