Guys (and Gals), I see people referring to parts painted 50% (or some other %) black. I understand it's a reduction in the gloss but how are you achieving it? Is it with a flattner? Additional thinner. I'm using PPG DL for most of my black parts but they don't list a flattner on the spec sheet.

Morty, its best to have your local PPG supplier recommend a flattening agent for the paint system you are going to use.
Not all flattening agents are the same, be positive you are getting the right stuff.
I once used DX 265 to flatten a gallon of black urethane (paint shop said it would be fine) and wasted a gallon of paint. Paint store found the mistake they made, replaced the paint and DX 265. I know DX 265 is compatible with Delstar and Duracryl.
Mr Belvedere,
I would do that, but you see DL isn't really legal in CA
I have to order it or drive out of state.

Morty, what parts are you painting 50% black?
Scott - I'm not painting anything 50% black. I was just using that as an example. However I think that most everything that is black laquer is flattened a little.
If you have a recommended reduction ratio I'd love to see it

I don't because I don't believe ant of it was intentionally flattened to any degree. I believe it was all gloss black but due to the low quality of the paint, application methods, and possibly thinning agents used, it often resulted in a less than glossy or a "dull gloss" finish.
I would guess they thinned it down to save money, but that doesn't seem to work well for me
