Hello all:

I have had for the past few years two old Carter 625 on an CH 28.

They are old and real gassy smelling, I go for a drive and smell like gas.

The carbs load up on me, need throttle shafts replaced, so rather than fix an old problem, I would rather go new.,

I have a 440 .50 over bore. 10.1 Ross Pistons, stock eddy heads, tri y`s and aar style exhaust in a 73 dart sport.

The motor is nothing fancy but we have taken alot of the `race`stuff off and have put the car back to a cruiser car.

Now with two kids on a Sunday drive we get gassed out. No fun.

I would like to think that the two 500`s would do the trick, as they are on the small side.

We run it progressive, so maybe the 600`would be a better choice, seeing as we run off the front carb, till I really get on it, which in the city is rare.

Either way, I need to eliminate the gassy smell.

I have read some posts from late 2008 and 2009 with Andy F`s big stroker 600hp and dual 500`s and thought I have only 450 hp and 451 cubic inches so maybe follow suit.

Any thoughts.

500cfm is enough. I have two 600 edel on and they
tend to be to rich. have to use smaller jets.
but it is better to use smaller carbs und use bigger jets.

Check out the article I just did for Popular Hot Rodding. July 2010 issue should be on the stand now. I used two 500 cfm Edelbrock carbs on an Edelbrock CH-28. That combo really ran nice and made great power.

I'm running 2 500's on a 440 very similar to yours. I'm very happy with the performance. I'm using the street hemi carb link to make the carbs "progressive". They work great.

I ran 2 500s on a 509 cammed motor. 3000 stall and 4:10s. Ran fantastic. Edelbrock Tech at a Lane Automotive car show told me 2 500s on a even a hot street 440 is plenty.

Keep old mopars alive.
Dual 500's. What about dual AVS? ( Thunder Series ) [Re: AndyF] #706527

Alright, well 500 cfm wins. Thanks for the replies back. ( As usual )

I read the wrong article Andy, I read Car Craft. It put another thought in my head, that being AVS.

It was a dual quad Chevy 409, and used two 500 Thunder Series AVS carbs.

I always enjoyed my old Holley 3310 750 VS on the street back in the old days.

Is going AVS a step back too much? They have them for single barrel and then ones calibrated for dual quad.

I do not run an electric choke, but it seems to be suggested, as also I am seeing a few electric chokes in the pics in the signature pictures.

Bryan

Thanks,

Bryan
