1969 Dodge Coronet

440 based on the car craft build from years ago
with one exception. An alternate to the carburetor.

This car will occasionally see the track, but primarily will be used for cruising and spirited street driving.

I have looked into several options available, and have narrowed it down .

The first option would be a throttle body system from
FAST fuelairspark.com part # 30227-KIT
or
the Edelbrock proflo 2 system
Edelbrock.com # 35090

I am looking for a bolt on and little hassle system, so what are your thoughts?

Pros vs cons etc.

What do you think?

thanks eight

Look at the Fastman EFI web site. I believe he has a throttle body set-up that he says is self-tuning.

Thanks for the heads up!

Does anyone on the board here run one of these systems?

Is there a pro con between throttle body and EFI?

Or is it just preference?

I'm running the FAST XFI on a 496 B engine. In general, EFI gives better fuel distribution compared to a carb or throttle body injection.

Either port or throttle injection can provide drivability benefits. They will self adjust for altitude, temperature and variations in fuel energy (eg gasahol vs straight gas). Also, since you will have pressurized fuel going into the engine compartment vapor lock should not be an issue. The fuel injection setups, especially the XFI type, allow you to run plenty of advance and lean mixtures for efficient cruising and quickly richen things up and pull back the timing when you step on it. Its like having a race carb and economy carb in one package whith plenty of vacuum advance only when you want it.

The XFI setup does require considerable tuning and mapping compared to the self learning types. If you enjoy it that's great or get hooked up with somebody to do it for you. The self learning type is a lot easier.

Another consideration is fuel supply. The fuel injection setups require pressurized fuel from an electric pump. A frame rail mounted pump will work but in tank is better. In tank is quieter, longer lasting and allows you to run the tank lower without wory about cavitation or starving the pump.

I love my XFI setup and have enjoyed tuning it.

a bolt on with little hassle is what your asking for - then the EZ efi system sounds right for you - the eddy setup requires a laptop during inital fireup, and I dont know to what extent you need to get into the program, but the FAST Ez efi system is pretty much plug and play - thats a god fit for you it seems.

I'll let you know in a few weeks as I am in the process of the EZ efi kit right now.

I researched and got a fuel pump in the tank from rock valley - they convert a stamped steel tank to an efi, in tank setup.

with ahy for the most part. For the fuel pump thing, for mine I've got a sump I'm welding on the bottom of my gas tank, then running an external in-line fuel pump. Pump is a walbro gsl-392. Not my first time using one of these pumps either. They run quiet and have not let me down yet though I don't have many years of use on one yet.

There is also the Professional Products PowerJection III setup to consider. I believe the retrotek link above makes it for them or with them or some such scenario, for a bolt on top of carb manifold, self learning system, TBI.

Good luck!

This is awesome, learning a lot here.

What about Edelbrocks pro flo system? Has anyone run this? I have heard some people don't like these systems. Aren't they a plug and play also once they are dialed in?

thanks again! Lots of resources to consider here!

no but my initial research revealed you needed a laptop to get it running, if you make a significant change i dont know if that requires a date with the laptop every time or not.

I do know the ez efi system is all contained, and no laptop needed, whatever changes you make you never need the laptop for a tune.

besides, they are the only ones that will fit on my tunnel ram!

850 DEMON. A little rough on warm up. No choke. It's called character. Where is your spirit of adventure. Nostalgia.

Then there is the whaaaaaa. A sound that has no match.

i've been a carb guy all my life.

having said that is that not " spirit of adventure" to try a modern fuel injection setup?

I have the pros and cons of TB injection vs port injection on my web site. On the technical download page I also have a few articles that I wrote for a local Mopar club. The articles are start with, "All you wanted to know about EFI but ..."
