BobN OP member B Joined: Jun 2008 Posts: 137 Kenosha, WI wi/il border	i had replaced my old sending unit on my 68 coronet and the new one was formMancinis. registes only q/4 tank or always on empty. today we oull it and I put in a new one fomVans in WI ans same think -Bearely reading any gass!!!! [Edited by Moparts - Family Friendly Site - Keep it clean] ? really what do I have to do? we checked wire with vilt gaugw all good. we ran shock and got the gauge in the dash work and read full, when remove that goes to 'e' again HELP, do i buy another one frm someone else? hopefully i get one that works? WHAT DO DO WITH THESE SENDING UNIT ISSUES???

hooziewhatsit master Joined: Oct 2007 Posts: 3,884 Oregon	There was another guy here who had luck making his sender work better by adding another ground wire from the swinging arm to fuel pick up rod. Not sure if it'll help in your case or not. If you ever find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

BDW master Joined: May 2005 Posts: 4,727 Florida	If you still have the original you might be able to fix it. It's fairly easy to bend the tabs and open the cover. I just got done with mine. Usually the windings are ok and the wiper arm is the problem. In my case the connection point had corroded and the arm fell off. If this is the case, it's quite easy to clean it up and solder it back on. If the windings are damaged (open) it's probably not worth trying to fix it. I really wish I had taken some pics, unfortunately I was in such a hurry to get it working, I didn't.

Tested it before I installed it and it read fine thru full travel and seemed to read what I put back in the tank after draining it to swap senders. These are the 3/8 outlet with a return on them but the return can be plugged. You can also mini clamp a ground wire on the return and run it to the bolt in the body that holds up the fuel line above the right front corner of the tank,for those missing the hogey ground strap.Juat my 2cents but these did work and other "new' ones did not...Bruce

When I finally compared the new one to the original more closely I found that the swing arm travel was more on the new one (about a 3/4" or so). I had the correct resistance readings at both ends of the travel which threw me off. With the longer swing it was hitting the top of the tank before the end of the swing travel. A slight bend in the arm was all that was needed to correct it. Now it reads full on the gauge with a full tank of gas. Good Luck Jim

T Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 21,072 Niles , Ohio	The reason most dont work is because people dont check them for arm swing compared to the old one.That and some forget the ground.I run a wire from the sender to the body for a ground as here the strap rusts off quick.That and remember the gauges werent that accurate even new.Gad a few new cars in the 60s and 70s that the gauges were off.Rocky Chrysler Firepower

I believe it was in the General Forum, where the threads get deleted after so long. I took a quick look but didn't find it. I believe the guy had intermittent issues where at 3/4 tank, it would drop to empty, then it would work again at 1/2 tank. He found that the swinging arm was losing its ground to the rest of the sender at certain points along its travel. So, he added another wire from the arm to the sender body to give it a good ground, and it worked great after that. If you ever find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.
