From a previous thread I've learned that the passenger side idle circuit on my Edelbrock Performer carb is probably gummed up. (Adjustments to idle settings on that side of the carb make no difference in idle speed or vacuum)

It was suggested that I remove the idle screw and spray some starting fluid in it. I noticed my can of starter fluid says "do not spray in running engine".

So help me pick an option:
A) with engine off, remove idle adjust screw and spray with starting fluid and let it sit for a few minutes
B) With engine running, remove screw and spray
C) With engine running, remove screw and spray with carb cleaner instead.

???

engine off, screw out, carb cleaner, spray, with air gun, blow it into the hole

cleaned a bunch this way

cut the pressure down to 40-50 lbs

when I soak a carb that air pressure is the trick to cleaning one good and all the tiny air passages

but have had good results on the car with just air into the airbleeds

(1) That warning is meant for spraying it into the carb throat because of the fire hazard/helps them w liability/lawsuit issues. (2) option A (good 2 second blast)

starting fluid is for starting an engine(either) very flamable

carb clear is better and is flamable also but not as much as either,IMO
