......I am considering using a '76 727 trans I just bought in my '69 Super Bee. I was told that it came out of a Chrysler, probably a New Yorker. It worked fine, the one in my Bee needs a rebuild, so I'd like to use this one if I can. The Bee will be more of a driver than anything, with a slightly warmed up 383. Several questions, one is will a fluid/filter change and front/rear seals be sufficient? The fluid looks clear and red, but it has been sitting ahwile. And should I adjust the bands? I know how now, thanks to John and my manual........my '73 Roadrunner is running great, by the way.........and I would rather do it when the pan is off, if needed. Lastly, will the once piece throttle pressure linkage work with my Bee? Thanks for your input!

i would definitely set the bands and i don't think the one piece linkage will work, just transfer the '69 linkage over to the '76 trans and you are good to go.

Ok, thanks. I just went and looked at the Bee, the bellcrank and the linkage to that trans are there, but the top rod to the intake bracket is missing. Is the bracket on the intake the same on the '69? It looks the same in the pics I looked at as the '76 one........I also noticed where the cross shaft for the column shift goes......that would probably interfere with the once piece. Can I move that bracket to the newer trans? I can't see really well out there, sorry. Should have looked first.........anyway, I guess I can use the 2 piece, no big deal since I have most of it.

yeah, i'm not sure about the intake rod but if i were you i would just use the '76 trans and transfer all linkage from your '69 and buy any '69 parts you don't have.

I'd get in touch with A&A transmission too.

Not matter how hard you bottom out that kickdown linkage, your Bee will upshift between 4500 and 5000rpm. Way too early.

A&A will have a governor that will let your 383 swing to 6000rpm.

Thanks, I could change the governor later, if it becomes an issue. I really doubt I will ever take it to 6k, but this is good to know.

Here's what I'd do,

Change the front & rear seals.
Adjust the bands.
Install a basic shift kit.
Let A&A advise on what governor to update to.
Get a deep pan and/or cooler.
New filter & fluid (Type-F).

If you can, inspect the old driveshaft of the New Yorker and see if the slipyoke is galled or smooth. No sense in marring the D-shaft of your Superbee if the tailshaft bushing in your trans is toast. Been there.

Adding more capacity of fluid is going to assure you a longer lifespan since heat is the number one nemesis of the transmission.

If you can change a governor, you can put in a shift kit.

Well, the New Yorker is long gone, but I will try the Bee's slip yoke tomorrow. If it turns smooth it should be ok, I will lube the crap out of it before I out it in. The splines on this trans had some surface rust, but cleaned up. It shifts fine, and turns freely in neutral, although a little hard by hand. Probably from sitting. Thanks for the tips, I will try them soon.

It's usually common knowledge that grease is not used internally within an automatic transmission. In case you haven't heard that. Petroleum jelly or a specifically approved lube is advised.

I'd take a flashlight to it and see how it looks.

Well, the yoke from my Bee won't slide on, so I guess I need a '76 vintage one. I was going to use trans fluid for lube, or oil, just to see what shape it is in. No grease.

All 727 output shafts have the same spline, if the '69 yoke fit OK in the '69 but won't go into the '76 something is wrong with the '76 shaft or bushing.

Well, I found the reason the yoke from the Bee wouldn't slide on.......it is still in the Bee. (Doh!) I could have sworn I took that driveshaft out at one point......evidently not. No clue what yoke I tried yesterday, but it wasn't that one. I told you it was dark in my shed! I found a 727 yoke that fits, lubed it well, and it turns and feels nice and smooth. I left it in there, for now. Thanks again, 1 less thing to buy for the SuperBee!
