At least that's what the shop manual calls it. Anyhow I believe mine is defective, I acquired the trans in a trade and set it on my bench to check out and clean up a bit. That's when I discovered it wouldn't shift, so I pulled the pan and valve body and got the shift lever out. Where the throttle lever shaft is staked to the throttle lever has let loose and the shaft just turns in the lever. Probably need a new one ya? Is this a service part or do I need to find an old trans to cannibalize?

Kunkel on here will confirm if all of them are the same (which'll help you when placing the ad) and I'd put an ad in the transmission want ads for sale here and for a few bucks get one in your mailbox.

'69 and '70 are the same (on the left below), '71 and later are different. If you remove the rivet from the plastic shoe you can remove the shoe and weld/braze the shaft to the roostercomb but keep the welds small so they don't interfere with the VB casting or the case. Reinstall the plastic shoe with a pop rivet or small screw.

Many thanks John, I wondered about welding the piece to once again secure it, but was concerned about the clocking of the flat on the shaft. I suppose this is not so critical it needs to be perfect and if I was off by a few degrees I could make up for the difference with the shift linkage?

If it's completely spun and not just loose, welding is risky unless you have the shaft clocked correctly, I'd go for a replacement.

Ya it's completely loose, I'll look for another. Thanks again.
