Hi,
New here, just getting started. Right now I'm asking for help, and comments, wanting to learn.

My daughter has a '64 belvedere, 4-door, slant six.
I know (a 4-door and slant six), but she loves it and wants to just use it to drive daily.
She asked if it could be changed from manual to power steering and that's the help I need.
Any help with conversion and interchange would be greatly appreciated. Can't afford conversion kits so interchange from donor cars is the way I have to go.
Thanks for taking time to read my post/question.

You will need a P/S box, pump, hoses, steering column and possibly a pittman arm. Finding the year correct P/S brackets may be difficult. You may be able to use newer slant 6 brackets & pump.

You can use a power steering gear box from any 62 to 66 b-body car.

You can get an adapter to match the power steering box to your manual steering column, or you can use the power steering shaft from a 62 to 65 b-body and convert your manual steering column over to a power steering column.

The adapter would only work going from power to manual.

you may be limited as well depending on if it is an automatic or manual, on the column or console.

Thanks, for the input on my power steering conversion project. It is a push button automatic.
Am I wrong in assuming that the power steering column shaft (weather it's automatic, standard, column shift or console shift) will work since it is just the steering shaft that I need?
Now I just need to find the donor car or cars that I need or someone who has the the good used parts. I think that I should go with at least new hoses and pump.
Thanks

Definately new hoses. A rebuilt pump will suffice. P/S fluid really burns. I messed up my Imperial by not replacing the P/S hoses right away.

that is true. if you can find just the shaft. But most will sell the whole column.
Brain fart and forgot all the autos were push button. Got 65's on the brain.

I think as stated above, your hard part will be the brackets for a /6. if you can find one in the yards at all with ps, you should take the whole front end off and see what you need from there.

I honestly don't recall seeing many /6 cars with ps if any.

lol, this could be the excuse for a v8.
