I have a dana 60 from a Ford 3/4 ton. Is it worth it to change it to a car rear, and what needs to be done?

Probably costs about the same by the time you're all done unless you do the work yourself. At the minimum you'll need new axles, brakes and housing ends.

i did the same thing 2 yrs back and i have around $1500.00 in mine. the truck is probably a full floater so the axles, bearing housing ends, brakes , etc. wont be good for the car.

is it worth it? , maybe if your racing it and need the strength of the dana.

With parts I bought from doctor diff, I narrowed my own.

Quite a bit cheaper than buying one built IMHO. Especially if you luck out,a nd it has the gears that you want, in usable shape.

As for the weight, I had mine next to a oem dana car housing. They were identical. Only the HD 60 housing is noticably heavier. When you cut down a regular truck d60 you cut most of the heavy stuff off.

Ok saying the guts are good with the sure grip how do you get to $1500. Most yards around here want $150-200. The ends are $75 My guy charges $150 to narrow and weld in perches. I have a ton of brakes and drums. Lets say you have an 8 3/4 you can use the brakes off the 8 3/4 on the dana.

So you should be at $850 or less depending on the purchase price and narrowing cost. There's alot of ground to be made up there. If you did it and you are over $1000 where did the extra cash go?

$202 for the housing
$65-70 approx shipping
$250 for narrowing

$ ? assembley
$280 gears

Probably around $3000- 3200 when done. I took the perches off because ladder bars are being used but all in all still cheaper than buying new and having it shipped plus duties.

I had less than $1K in my Truck Dana including the disc brake conversion. I picked up the spool, ring and pinion used..everything else is new. New axles, new bearings. I narrowed it my self and made the disc brake setup my self...
All it takes is a welded and a grinder and some imagination..
and some fabing skills doesnt hurt either.

All it takes is shopping for deals and you can definitely build one cheap.
If you shop for deals from swap meets and even ebag they're out there.
I picked up a brand new set of Dana 60 Richmond 4.10 gears and new complete bearing set for $150.
I got a new Dana 60 35 spline power lock for $300 off ebag.

Deals are out there, just takes a little patience and grabbing the deal when it shows up.

Kayse can't keep up at all now. lol
