I am looking for the CORRECT engine harness for a 71 superbee 383 4-barrel holley with a 4-speed, point ignition. This has the electric retard on the distributor vac. advance and it also has an idle solenoid. Any suggestions who may carry this harness? Thanks for any help.

The Year Ones are the best made by M&H exclusivly for them. You can get 20% off right now too. Their prices are about the same as anywhere else especially with the discount.

I purchased several of the M&H's through Year One, they are top quality. One was a 440-6 modified for electronic ignition, it looks practically factory.

stay away from bill & rose evans' wiring harness, mine sucked on my a12 superbee plus it isnt correct and the leads out of the bulkhead came out twice making me pull my hair out trying to diagnosis the problem.

x 2 . Never had an experience with Evans harness's but would suggest the M&H harness to anyone from my experiences. They look original in most every way.

I don't think Bill Evans even makes engine harnesses. Year One is the only outlet to get them through that I know of. The harness I got for my '72 was perfect.

wrong. my engine harness is from evans, and it sucks and doesnt look correct at all, especially the ballast resistor connectors.
his customer service stinks too!

I got mine from Hardens Muscle car world. It was made by Evans. It works but not correct. Wrong color fuseable link, some plugs are too long. It worked and looks ok but if your looking for concours correct i'd look at M&H

Your right... It was dash harnesses I was thinking of. Maybe I should have said he shouldn't make engine harnesses!

There seem to be a lot of folks complaining about bad connections, especially at the bulkhead, if you google Bill Evans wiring.

I bought my harness a year ago and had issues almost immediately with the connectors pulling out of the plastic plugs at the ballast...no problem, there...I just removed the plugs and used the metal connectors only. I also found that the wires at the coil were a tad too short, but I made it work OK.

But then i had issues where the car would shut down for no reason and I found two bad connections at the bulkhead....wires just pulled out...I soldered those in and sent an email to them, at which point they said send the harness back so they could go over it....But I figure I found my issue and decided to move on...didnt want to have the car dead in the water.

Well, now I am having the same issue again this season....contacted them and they told me to send it back for them to examine. On one hand, good support as far as looking at it a year later...on the other hand, have had issues from day one.

So for me the jury is out.

I purchased a new harness to avoid the issue of possible harness problems......so not real happy.

No idea how long it will take to get my harness back....but figured I best have the, go over the harness before looking for issues elsewhere and they agreed.

I sent it back via next day air after being told I shouldnt wait because they will be kneee deep in shows soon....then found out today that the main guy is out of town...so I wasted next day air fees.

Still appears that year one is the way to go. I have heard a few good things about evans harnesses but probably more bad than good. My main concern is that I want a harness as original, i.e. the distributor vac advance and the idle solenoid, I know at carlisle last summer bill told me that his harness was not equipped for the idle solenoid so I will try a year one harness. Thanks again.

same exact situation with my harness for my A12uperbee, my car wouldn't stay running.
thank God for VCODE who's a electrical guru.came over and found 2 bad connections on my evans harness. sent him a email and wanted it back. i told him that its brand new an send me out another and i'll send the bad one back. didn;t want to tie up my car for that long on a time period.
i never sent it back, fixed it and i am buying a yearone harness and no more sales to Evans.
poor customer service IMO.i'm tired of dealing with these small mom pop shops with no good return policies.

Well talk about fast shipping!! I received my harness today and as everyone said it looks super. Although I do believe there is something missing. My car is a four speed car with a 383 and a holley carb. The manual trans cars have an idle solenoid with two leads that routed off of the rear of the carb, they actually attach to one of the vac. diaphram screws. Well one lead is ignition power to the solenoid and the other is for distributor vac. advance ground when the throttle is closed. Well this harness has no connection for either. According to the wiring diagram in the service manual this is a manual trans only application. Auto trans have no idle solenoid and the wire for the distributor ground comes right off of the curb idle screw located on the front of the carb. This harness is PERFECT for the auto trans setup but I am certainly missing something for the four speed setup. Can anyone help?? Possibly a picture of an original setup? I can make it work but I want it to appear proper as this is a numbers matching car. My research shows that E and B body applications are the same. Thanks

I would suggest you call Tom at M&H and discuss this with him, if the harness is incorrect he will make it right. Do not talk to anyone except Tom. If it needs to be reworked I am sure he will handle shipping both ways.

Bill just made two for me - one was special sized to go from a 440 to a 1953 Hudson body, the other a standard 70 big block , both nice items , there was no noticable difference between Bills and the year Ones I got.
